Great elk sausage pun!
If you're paying the full price with a UK card, it is usually cheaper to book on the Swedish site, currently SEK 122. Of course there is no such thing as zero forex fee cards in Scandinavia.

Your flimsy comparison is like going to London and Inverness and deciding that you prefer England to Scotland.
Nowadays there are periods where the passport checks are suspended, although in the past 2 years checks have more often been in place than not in place.

There is a bit of north-south divide in Sweden just like the UK. The passport checks are a diktat from Stockholm, word on the ground is that local police don't really care, hence the slightly cursory nature of the check. Malmö and surrounds used to be Danish after all... The majority of people caught out are tourists who didn't realise the Schengen treaty is partially suspended here. You can often get back across by car (or even bus) without issues if you left your passport in Sweden.
Your fears in the last sentence are valid. Judging Sweden based on Malmö, is like judging the UK based on Hull.

I highly recommend holidaying in Stockholm.
Oh how depressing to hear that there are now passport controls on The Bridge. :-(
Well, at least you had a meal and a walk in the country you put tongue-in-cheek second. But I trust that you will take any opportunity that arises to see more of the rest of Scandinavia. There are many amazing people and places there.
At different times I have made short trips like this across various borders, it's always an interesting thing to do.
If you blink you'll miss it, but as the train crosses the border the girders are painted on one side with Danish flags and on the other with Swedish :-)
Take the Swedish flag, replace the blue with red, replace another colour with white and turn it upside down; you then have the flag of a neighbouring country.
Malmo is a fairly dull place, other parts of Sweden are more interesting!

Weird that since the bridge opened it's become a commuter suburb for Copenhagen though
I go to Malmo fairly regularly as I have colleagues there; and yes, as I understand it many of them live in Denmark. I think I've had my passport checked twice on the train; I always prepare for it, it very rarely happens. My favourite visit to Malmo was just before Christmas last year, as they had some great Christmas decorations - in particular, in Lilla Torg, they had a gigantic table lamp in the square! One of those rare photos you actually need passers-by to be in to give an idea of the scale... I like Malmo, and I really like Stockholm (I go there regularly too) - I've only ever seen Copenhagen airport though, so maybe next Malmo trip I should stay over and explore more of the Danish city; your trip reports this week have certainly made it seem like somewhere I'd enjoy.
With just a short visit you didn't get the chance to go further along the Skåne coast to Ystad - which I suspect would have quickly tipped the scales in favour of Sweden!
I only "visited" this bridge and city in the computer game Euro Truck Simulator 2. One of the pronunciations of this city's name is similar to the term "cat's hair" in Cantonese (my mother tongue)
I think I have a duller anecdote than Patrickov. I used to own a gerbil called Malcolm, whose name included all the letters of the word Malmö (apart from the umlaut).
I really enjoyed this series DG, thank you for posting it over a few days.
