The London Dungeon is no longer outside London Bridge - it's on the South Bank. But London Bridge does now have the 'London Bridge Experience'...
...and that won't be the last inconsistency you lot find, I bet. (P.S. it's not a competition)
I might just point out that the Tesco Express opposite Big Ben has been there for years...
I had completely forgotten about that steam engine which was still outside Stratford station when I started working nearby in 2008 - a nice memory! I wonder where he went?
Hang on - you're saying Robert is still there?
Robert is still there, relocated outside the station exit.
I'ma little confused by the 'former' Blackfriars station - was it originally here before the bridge was built?

(Also, I think Fishcotheque has to be one of my favourite shop names in London)

Very interesting to see the comparison though - thanks for doing the trek!
Re Tesco Express now outside Westminster, I *think* it was previously a Europa convenience store: Tesco bought the Europa/Cullens/Harts chain in 2004 and then converted them to Tesco Express (sigh).
At last, a kitten in a post! :)
I still get an inner shudder each time I pass Fishcotheque. I remember the horror of realisation in the dark car as we identified the large, curly, metal (and well fried) swarf, twisting its way through a large chip.

It was a long time ago and I'm sure they've changed their machinery since then.
Sad to see that station flower stalls might be on the way out. They were so cheering when coming out of the Tube after a grim day, even if I could hardly ever afford to buy.
"Meakers" were a clothing chain (IIRC) and must have been the station tenant at some stage.
From the phone book of 1933 .... ;D

MEAKERS Ltd, Men's Wear (Head Office)

With umpteen branches all over London
Interesting comparison.

Bet in 2004 we'd never have dreamed that some of the biggies (Planetarium, London Dungeon, Eurostar station etc) wouldn't be there 10 years later!
What a great idea! Thanks for sharing!
Please do this again for other lines!
I'm surprised you did not mention that great new strategic transport initiative at North Greenwich , the dangleway!

dg writes: I didn't mention it because it's not outside the station, it's some walk away.
This photo shows there was a branch of Meakers at the station in 1933.
Where exactly is the old wooden door? I've not noticed it before.
@Teflon

The "former" Blackfriars station is the one on the old SER line between London Bridge and Waterloo east, where it crosses Blackfriars Road. It was only open for four years in the 1860s. The entrance was exposed and tidied up in 2005.

- oh, and yes, the original LCDR Blackfriars Bridge station was indeed on the south side of the bridge, but quite unconnected to the SER station to which DG alludes. It closed when the present Blackfriars station opened: originally called St Pauls, it was renamed in 1937 when the Central Line's "Post Office" station was renamed St Pauls
ah, of course - I'd seen that entranceway before but not put two and two together.

Strangely enough, I took a photo of almost that exact spot the other day, from the line into the new Blackfriars.
@Teflon
good picture - shows the widening of the viaduct for the long-gone platforms.

The lack of interchange here, despite the two lines having been under the same management since 1899, speaks volumes for our not-at-all-joined up transport policy

(the "New" Blackfriars is itself 150 years old!)
