dg gives us the 411 on a particular bus route!
Superb stuff on a local route to me, but that needs to be longer bar the presence of the GLC border preventing it from going further west to where it'd really be appreciated; but that's the lot of the 461, which takes a different latitude on its way.And I got my last tattoo done at Midnight Pumpkin!
“Someone had left a copy of The Sun on the back seat, I decided to leave it there.”
What a wise young man you are. 👍🏻 😂
The London Country route that took over the London Transport section of the 211 between Kingston and Walton-on-Thames in 1983 is still numbered 461, I'm not entirely sure how many operators it's had since deregulation, but it must be in double figures by now.
You cannot get in at the Queen Elizabeth reservoir. However the King George /Staines reservoir has a public footpath across it. A 203 bus from Hounslow and get off at Scots Close, the reservoir on your left, you will find a gate and steps up to top of reservoir, then you can walk across to the other side. Not many people know this.
A nice little route. Lets hope such cross border routes continue to operate.
The introduction of a contraflow route for buses at that junction a few years ago, together with the prior short cut were a boon for the bus community. The offset being, of course, an extended traffic light cycle, the countdown timer not helping making the wait more palatable
Being a little older than you, when I see 411 I think of West Croydon to Reigate via Old Coulsdon and Godstone.
Once again proving the educational worth of reading this blog. Never having heard of coal tax posts, my research revealed that I had seen many before without giving them a second glance.
As an indication of just how moneyed East Molesley is, one eatery was spotted advertising its set Christmas menu for over £160 p/p!!
It may be owned by Fenwick’s but it is definitely branded Bentalls in Kingston
Of the other two that cross the Thames twice, I can only think of the 521 (off the top of my head without using a map)!
The R68 also crosses the River Thames twice at Hampton Court and Richmond.
The 33 should and hopefully will again soon once Hammersmith Bridge is sorted. It currently just crosses at Richmond.
Other routes crossing twice, 110, N22 and the 'temporary' N33 & N72.

The 344 currently uses different bridges northbound and southbound.
The RV route is still lamented by bridge-crossing bus enthusiasts.
I don't know which day you visited Kingston, but for most of this week there have been roadwork outside the bus station, reducing traffic from 3 lanes to 1. This has indeed caused 10 bus tailbacks past the site of the old bus station to Wilko's
Finally! A bus ride through my old home town, East Molesey. Born and raised there in the '60's, I moved to the US in 1989 and it's always fascinating to see the changes, (or that not much has changed). Prices are stupid but its location always was the driver. Thanks for letting us ride along.
