We need a crowdfunder to keep this experiment going! I'd be interested to see how 2nd class postage is going after the change in delivery dates.
That's really interesting. Apart from the missing No 5, good evidence of bunching, despite 1st Class being a 1 day service.,
Time to crowdfund some airtags!

The 93% target has also been fiddled with, by setting the vast majority of post boxes to an official '9am / 7am' collection time (even though they're really collected later on in the day).
Spectos (who track Royal Mail performance by having people all over the country post RFID tags on particular days) will give Royal Mail an extra day to deliver items posted from 9:01am onwards as of course they missed the collection (!) |
Letter delays potentially linked to post takeover rationalisation of service (merging Royal Mail and parcelforce businesses); observations that more profitable (and tracked) parcels traffic seem to be taking priority over letters.
MP's are taking note of widespread complaints of letter service delays. Apparently quite a few London delivery offices are short staffed with no effective route to resolving this. |

Blooming privatisation!!
The promise is that the service will improve, but big bonuses and shareholder profits usually mean the opposite is the case. :( It's a downward spiral of higher prices leading to fewer letters being posted, leading to higher prices .... |

There seems to be something happening with bills or maybe all bulk mail.
I'm regularly getting them with dates of a couple of weeks ago. In some cases days after the date they say the payment is due. |
At least by posting them yourself you knew you were expecting a letter, my view is that we are now in the nursing home phase of the postal service, they'll be good days and bad days.

My energy supplier has just informed that I'm going paper free with immediate effect.
This may be related to reports of slow deliveries of bills. |

I posted my christmas cards at the Post Office in Grytviken, South Georgia on 05 December. They arrived at UK addresses on 06 February. Cost £2 postage each.

Over a period of four months, I ordered separately 3 antique prints from a supplier in Lincoln. These were sent "Royal Mail Signed For". The first one was left on the porch while we were out and my signature was faked. The second one was left on the porch while we were out and my signature was faked. The third one was left on the porch while we were in and my signature was faked.
The first two standard complaints brought nothing but platitudes. The third complaint to the CEO's Office brought...nothing but platitudes. Apparently the delivery officer has been given a severe talking-to. Utter crap verging on fraud. |
What are you moaning about? in Belgium a second class letter (“non prior”) mostly takes 10 days to arrive. Invoices are overdue when they arrive. I have set as much as possible via email.

Uncle Doris has been a postie for a good few years now. The cutbacks, mismanagement and general ineptness have made what was once a really good job to do into somewhere he's just serving time.
Many deliveries are done by temps and agency workers, as there is a severe shortage of experienced staff and not much recruitment incentive. Very often, if your regular postie is ill or on leave, you just won't get your post as there's no cover, which is why all your letters arrive in a bunch, when the postie is back at work. Parcels and contract work (like mass mailouts) are prioritised over birthday cards. It's all such a tragedy. |

Get rid of the unionised part of the workforce. Sell off as many buildings as possible. Petition to have the universal service obligation removed because you can’t meet it. Focus on parcels and close the rest down. Cash in and move on. All pretty much predictable…

In the run up to Christmas we had no post for ages, then 22 items arrived on 17th. This included 3 Christmas cards, all sent second class from Sheffield, postmarked 6th, 8th and 16th.
Every year in the run-up Christmas, postal workers are given a card with an insincere message and two sheets of stamps. This year, those stamps were second-class. Says it all, really.

Yes, the PO is failing - our mail is "bunched" in to two or three days a week here in rural Dorset. But at least Amazon shows that providing a service that meets specifications IS possible, even here.... all the stuff I order with Prime arrives the next day.
Don't forget that the Royal Mail offers a delivery service below second class. It's what a lot of bulk mail uses and it effectively only delivers on days when there is another delivery to the property. As you can tell this is somewhat recursive if you never receive actual 1st/2nd class post you can have huge gaps followed by dumping of the backlog.

Any news of letter 5?
If your first class letter is more than 3 days late, you can get 6 first class stamps compensation
