Ive been here DG. Havering really look after thier parks, top marks there.

Why 'London's least understood borough' in your final paragraph?
You have just described some of the www.spitfirescramble.co.uk route which was due to have taken place this weekend.
Bugger typo above 'their'
Having (almost) finished the Thames Path, I'm going to do the London Loop next - once we're allowed out again!
Why just a 300 degree panorama? Is there something ugly ruining the view?
"quintessentially atypical"

:-)
At the time of your trip, it seems that you had moved on to Oyster PAYG or contactless rather than a Travelcard? What would you say are the pros and cons?
Love the Swastika. Well don't "love" it, but you know what I mean.

And at Upminster of all places. Whatever next.
Yes, many former rubbish dumps around the edge of London have been really well landscaped and now make lovely open spaces.

Where's there's muck there's brass. Or rather grass (and trees)
Not sure I understand the comments "when we are allowed out again" and "oh to get back out and enjoy it again".
The swastika was (and probably still is) a protection symbol in many Indian cultures however the Nazi connotations has since ruined it for everyone.

I don't remember that Loop section being so nice when I did it - which probably means I did it in mid-winter!
Looks like my sort of place to be on a hot summer day though!
I sometimes think that how you feel about a LOOP section depends on where you've been walking recently.

If you've been in Inner London, you appreciate the green spaces and "ruralness", if you're used to the Chilterns or Yorkshire Dales, you notice how urban it is!
It ‘s certainly a pleasant saunter from the visitor centre to the “hill” and back on a nice day.

There’s another footbridge across the river about halfway between the summit and visitor centre which leads to more of the park and some reed clogged lakes.
At a guess, DG's travelcard doesn't cover zone 6, so peak v off-peak back to zone 2 would be a difference of £1.30, at today's prices.
Friday, 7.35am. No Friday post yet. Hope everything’s ok DG.
Where I first started out ! We lived within hearing distance of Upminster Bridge Station which I must have used more than any other station. There have been a number of changes since I lived there but most of it still recognisable.Brings back lots of nice memories. Incidentally I just re-read your previous visit in 2017 and had not remembered that the White Hart pub was no more.
Did that stretch last October - though the normal Loop way starting at Upminster. Pouring with rain when we reached Rainham so gave the museum a miss - but lunch in the huge Tesco was surprisingly good.
