Chingford Hall Estate goes way back before 1990. I lived in it in 1974, in the closest of the (then) three tower blocks to the road. It was very noisy from traffic, no one having thought to build the wall at that time, and full of kids denied all but the crudest basics. The head of the local primary told me that half the children were asleep much of the morning in class. Nowadays, of course, the poor don't even have tower blocks to live in .....
Surprised to learn recently that the River Stort is similarly named after Bishop’s Stortford and not the other way round. Maybe.
I had no idea that the housing behind the Stadium was now accessible. It's been evident for a few weeks that things were getting close to completion. How odd to think that DG has strolled past the supermarket I use.
yes, I shop there once a month (get a lift from a friend to buy heavy nonperishable stuff)and I've been watching the development of the Stadium site. Only passing by occasionally means changes are very noticeable. The main problem for the future flatdwellers is that the area is poorly served by public transport.
