In a previous job, I ran a postgraduate certificate programme for local councillors (most of them weren't graduates, but market research suggested that they wouldn't sign up for anything lowlier). Lutfur Rahman was one of the first tranche of students, notable mainly for being the first student ever to bring a laptop to one of my classes.
I see Jessie Jackson has lent their support to Rahman. Who she?
That's fascinating - I will now keep an eagle eye on the result.
Is that Rahman's actual website, the one that is under construction?

Great summation.

I do feel the BBC has missed an opportunity hiring you as their new Political Editor ;-)
Interesting that Rahman is promising to arrest people. The Tower Hamlets mayor has no control over the police, do they?
Do you still get an alternative vote, or have the Tories replaced it with first past the post yet?
I really enjoyed reading this, even though it's not my borough. Your take on matters and pithy summaries made for a good read. Thankyou.
Mr Wood makes no secret of his Conservative background on his website (under Who am I), though not being able able to think of reasons for people voting for him is a little unimaginative.
As a result of a bit of history between them from a few years ago, whenever I see the name Lutfur Rahman, I still find it hard not to think of Andrew Gilligan (journalist and former London Cycling 'Tsar').
It amazes me that anyone found personally guilty of "corrupt or illegal" electoral practices is ever allowed to stand for public office again.
