Thanks, I will visit soon. I spotted it only last week looking through the EH brochure. Never heard of it or noticed it before. Is it newly open?

dg writes: I last visited in 1998.
Another added to the list, thanks!!
I keep meaning to go on the Archaology Collections Store Tour ... http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/whats-on/wrest-archaeology-store-tour-may/
darn it, it's on today, another one I've missed ... must try harder
Back in '98 was before English Heritage took over and I remember there was very little of the building that was accessible but the garden was always good to explore.

Visiting is much improved over recent years with a very popular new cafe and kids play area opened recently.

If you are there on an August Sunday afternoon there is usually a band playing traditional tunes in the garden
At last I've become one of your readers who can say that you could have called in for a cuppa. Well, not quite as you cut the corner off by walking along the Flit from the Mill. Did you notice that the mill wheel has been restored and was, most likely, turning?

dg writes: I can confirm the mill was turning.

And, you visited my old office. The Sculpture Gallery is in the Old Dairy and that was my office for most of the 70s. I remember looking out of the dairy door one wild and stormy evening to watch the trees bending in the howling wind. The staff would walk in the gardens during lunch hour and some used to skate on the frozen Long Water. That was when we had proper winters. Wrest Park was a great place to work since being relatively isolated the staff became almost family so I have thirty years of happy memories of that place.

To answer Ian Brooker's question: The research institute closed and English Heritage started to open the house in 2006 but the gardens had always been open to the public at weekends.
I'm sure I visited in 1996 using my EH pass but could be misremembering (one of my daughters was just born and my mother-in-law was visiting from the US and didn't return for another 8 years so that's the latest it could have been). Back then the mausoleum was open at weekends but you had to ring a keyholder in the village who would meet you there and unlock the door, which we did. Well worth the visit.
Useless fact:
Lily Allen recorded her music video for 'The Fear' here.
I visit Wrest Park once in each season of the year. Beautiful and peaceful (on weekdays!).. and entry is free with the Art Pass.
Thanks for the write up. My girlfriend and I spent a lovely afternoon at Wrest Park yesterday afternoon. Even though it was a hot summer Sunday, the place wasn't packed. There were many times when we couldn't see anyone in any direction as we wandered the grounds.
