Careful DG, not drinking enough increases the chance of developing Kidney Stones... And I can confirm two operations later that they are *not pleasant*!
Conversely, you might want to think (perhaps not share with us) how much liquid you released over the course of the day as well. I second James's comment, too.
I third James's comment on kidney stones - you want to flush out your system regardless whether you're thirsty or not
Im a "not very much" drinker too, so thanks all for the advice. Think I might get a water now...
I don't drink much either, but my partner is like one of those dolls with the passage between mouth and bottom bit - the ones that come with the tiny milk bottles - in one end and out the other. And if it does not happen constantly his brain melts. It is hell in strange cities with not too appealing toilet facilities. Come to think of it, if you lie him down his eyes shut and he goes to sleep too. Hey, I think I am on to something here...
A MINIMUM of two litres of water per day is the well-balanced way.

Especially if/when you are on medication.

Of course, drinking too much is bad for you too.
I thought that 'two litres a day' was discredited now - or at least it should include all the water that's in food etc. I suspect it originated with the bottled water industry. And, as DG says, not needing to drink is a *very* useful capacity to have (especially if it reduces the need to find toilets on a day out as well) and isn't going to do any harm once in a while. Wish I could do it.
You can get a good amount of the water you need from food.
Beer is over 98% water innit?
I second what Sarah and Steve say. You don't have to 'drink' water - a lot of water is in the foods you consume. I detest drinking water or too much fluid (soups etc). I don't suffer any problems - kidneys or otherwise. However, if it is very hot, you are exercising (to sweating profusely) or you are on meds then a drop of fluid now and then to top up is advised. I expect you will continue to drink an average of 5 cups of tea regardless.
If you were an average twitter user, you'd be telling us throughout those 17 hours just how not thirsty you were and how remarkable it was. This is another reason why I'm pleased you're not an average twitter user.
Same thing happened to me recently. Went to woods in the morning and forgot to take water. Worked all day digging and was thinking I ought to drink something but since there was nothing readily available I just carried on. Must have been at least 8 hours without liquid (or food for that matter) but I didn't feel thirsty and there were no noticeable adverse effects. A big factor was the cold, if it had been hot it would have been a different story. I get the point about kidney stones but they don't form in a day so as long as you don't do it regularly I don't see why it would be much of a problem.
Your body is brilliant at recycling water and as someone has pointed out the temperature is a big factor re perspiration.
I bet that cup of tea when you got home was marvellous.
Drinking too much water ruins the concentration gradients in the loops of Henle in the kidney, which is bad. The human brain already knows when to get the body to drink - you get thirsty.
I remember being like this years ago, but now it's headaches all the way as soon as I get low on fluids. Sigh. I wonder if being a coffee drinker has anything to do with it?
Reality is, you *don't* really need to drink much if you're not eating.Your body's glycogen is attached to quite a lot of water. As you use up the glycogen, the water is released. You can't do this for more than around 24 hours.
If you were getting dehydrated, you'd get thirsty and have a drink.
I think urine colour is a good guide as to how well hydrated you are. If it is deep yellow you are not drinking enough - the ideal is apparently the colour of Chardonnay.

In the past urine wheels were used to aid diagnoses.

(puts Chardonnay on shopping list)
Just wondering what time you left to arrive at Bristol and what time you left.

Thinking or doing a spur of the moment trip tomorrow getting the national express £6.90 with luxury seating to get there for 9:45am and then train it back in the eve as its only 29 quid

Just wondering if there’s enough to do ‘on my tod’, and if you feel it’s worth an overnight stay for 29 quid at the premier inn then back in the morning to Paddington
