Blimey, a 40% reduction overnight.
The FA cup was great. You had to win it. I loved the multiple replays, heavy pitches and terrible weather for the 3rd and 4th rounds. Interviews from giant killing brickies, cab drivers and usually a school teacher.

Most smaller teams record attendances were FA cup games. enfield v barnsley 4th round replay attendance 35,244 at White Hart Lane.
You'd have to be a VERY dedicated West Ham fan to be bothered about winning the FA Cup forty years ago, and it's a fairly meaningless anniversary to anyone under around 45-50 years of age.
I remember it very fondly. I became a West Ham fan in 1975, when they won the FA Cup for the second time in their history. My mother, who was from Plaistow, and whose parents were season ticket holders, said I had to and I've been stuck with it ever since. In 1980 I made a West Ham hat and scarf for my Snoopy. It was also the year of Coe/Ovett and, for me, Steve Davis.
Altogether now, TRA-LA-LA, LA-LA-LA-LA
I hadn't picked up over the years you were an Arsenal fan (in fact I thought you were football-agnostic if that is a thing). I do, however, reckon you would have read Nick Hornby in that case. Well, my only claim to fame in life (and for those who have read Fever Pitch it might mean something) I played in the same Sunday League youth team as Gus Caesar for several years until a torn ligament put an end to my unpromising career.
Some might argue that being an Arsenal fan and a football agnostic are one and the same thing. ;-) That's getting dangerously close to football banter though, and I'm not sure that DG's comments board is the place for such frivolity.

And Gus Caesar was unfairly maligned IMO. Despite his shortcomings at the very highest level of football, he'd still have been a much better player than 99.9% of the rest of us. And that deserves to be remembered.
Not a footie fan but guess it is more interesting than the Archers.
No need to apologise DG. I can’t see myself seeing any of this as next season’s matches I fear will all be behind closed doors and match days are the only time I now go to East London. Keep up the good work - your daily digest is much appreciated.
My household was very mach anti-telly on all day, so these FA cup final days made for a welcome exception - not that I found the run-up malarkey and actual football terribly interesting. However, a DG post always has something to interest me, in this case the brief note of what else was on the box that day :-)
What instrument was the grade 5 theory class on?
"my diary records, that one goal had been repeated 14 times" Did you note how many camera angles were shown?
Ah, Citizen Smith. "Power to the People!"
The only good thing about that game was Willie Young taking out some kid of theirs, one of the Allen clan but I can’t remember which one other than it not being Clive, who was through on goal and about to become the youngest ever cup final scorer (as well as putting the game to bed at 2-0) until our big ginger Scotsman put a stop to all that romantic nonsense. The commentator (I think Barry Davis?) was full of indignation but I roared my 11 year old approval as I clung on to the hope of a late equaliser!
Today’s post led me to a long trawl through The Great Egg Race on YouTube.
Even though I'm not a Hammer myself (I support a non-league club), as an E13 boy I appreciate any mention of West Ham overcoming Arsenal.
My Best Mate who is an Arsenal supporter was there for the third time in three years. He says the defeats in 1978 against Ipswich Town and in 1980 were more than compensated by the victory over Man Utd in 1979. Apparently Arsenal like to let the less fashionable teams win in case they don’t get another chance.
