I wasn't previously aware of the London Festival of Architecture, but I spent an informative hour in the London Centre on Thursday (entrance in Aldermanbury, next to the Guildhall Library). There they have three large architectural models of London on show and a number of other interesting displays about the built environment around the walls.
RIBA and the V&A are ending their twenty-year relationship in 2027 so nothing is likely to be done to the gallery.
RIBA will hopefully be providing easy access to their extensive collections, but that's unlikely given their track-record before the V&A was involved.
I was similarly mildly excited when I saw there was an exhibition on cooling towers (that's probably shows why I've been returning to your blog almost daily for the last 15 years or so) and I'm in London next weekend, so it's a shame it wasn't as good as you'd hoped. I suspect I'm also likely to disappoint them with my attire.
Good to know that at least one architect takes note of how people actually use buildings and spaces. If more did so, we might be spared the “windswept central piazza lined by shuttered shops” you found in Colindale, and its like, so often created by architects who’ve failed to notice that the UK’s weather is substantially different from the climate in Tuscany and Umbria where they go on holiday.
Obviously “at least one architect takes note of how people actually use buildings and spaces”, obviously.
We went on the tour of the Royal College of Physicians organised as part of the LFA but clearly a regular event anyway. It was much enhanced by the weather - the gardens were looking particularly lush. We also had fun playing guess which members of the tour were architects! Looking forward to the RIBA exhibit as the fittings for the exhibition are designed by the architects who designed our garden shed (which they describe as a pod). Margaret Howell's shop is always a scary place to visit but they do have good exhibitions and put out a very nice calendar each year (this year's is ISOKON plywood furniture) and the staff are always very friendly even when it is clear you aren't going to purchase anything from them!
It's a bit old perhaps, but I like the models in the V&A Architecture Gallery.

I'm going to one of the film presentations later this month, and will combine it with the Grahame Park exhibition. My borough Barnet seems to have a lot of LFA events.
