Is the Thames Path this year's 'thing'? First Oxford, now Windsor...

Interesting piece DG, grew up in nearby Langley so nice to see some coverage of the local area.

I did this walk last week and yesterday tried to walk the Thames Path from Windsor to Maidenhead. However they are building a pedestrian bridgeover the river from Windsor race course to access the Olympic rowing at Eton Dorney lake so they have closed almost 2 miles of the path by the river. Instead it is possible to walk along the rowing lake - which I hadn't seen before so it had some interest - but certainly not as nice as walking along the Thames itself. Be warned - as this closure will be in place most of the year covering the period after the games when they will dismantle the bridge

Staines-on-Thames? Seriously?

Yes, Staines-on-Thames. I've added some links to the text as proof.

On May 20th the council are holding a special Staines-on-Thames Day to celebrate the name change. Councillors. eh?

Fascinating reading as always. Walking the whole of the Thames path is definitely on my list of things to do when I move back to England and/or retire but it's interesting to know which individual sections are worth walking.
By the way the Kemble link doesn't appear to be working.

One of the places I always try to visit when I'm in the UK.

Hahahahahaha!! Staines on Thames!!!

Beautiful looking walk though!

Nothing to say about Galloway?

So what is the point of the change? Richmond-on-Thames distinguishes it from Richmond, Yorkshire, and Kingston-upon-Thames distinguishes it from Kingston, Jamaica. Is there another Staines which it's important to avoid confusion with?

Regarding access to Home Park I believe it wasn't always that you had to divert, the path used to run on this side of the river but was closed in the 1990s sometime I think for "security reasons".

Andrew - yes, the stains you get when something is dirty.

To distinguish from Kingston upon Hull, surely

I think they missed a trick - they should have called it St Aines upon Thames
