Hurrah!

Finally you get to Waltham Forest, hope you had a great day.

I lived there for 7 years left six years ago, I've never really felt the need to return.

I see you were only one street away from my residence. Hope you enjoyed Waltham Forest.

now was that talkative chap on the 123 bus, who got off for the WM Gallery, Mr DG or not?

Apart from the cockles it sounds very similar to a SW France market, and long may they exist!
I'm becoming addicted to your blog, perhaps because I never properly explored 'real London' in the xx years I lived in the UK

Walthamstow is probably one of the relatively few areas of North London which I've never really visited, so I've got no real vested interest in the area. I have to say though that your descriptions of the place are fascinating nonetheless.

Ah, Walthamstow Market. Never have I eaten so much fresh fruit and veg as I did in the year I lived just round the corner from it.

And alas, I've not seen such an example of the less desirable east London characteristics than when queuing at a stall behind an immigrant woman whose limited command of English meant that she ordered her fruit by pointing and holding up various numbers of fingers to signify quantity. This took some time, much to the exasperation of the late middle aged cockney lady running the stall. When the transaction was complete, the customer went on her way with "We say thank you in this country!" ringing in her ears.

I liked the photo;geezer sitting down with white socks and the old boy in the blue shirt.

Is the pie and mash shop still there???
