An interesting description of a gradual return towards normal. If it were not for the still disgraceful death figures, I might almost be inclined to be a bit cheerful. So long as I don't think about W.T.O. or possible second spikes.
6 and 16) You had better be careful writing about such observations. In this equality-obsessed age, middle-aged (+) single white males outside schools are assumed to be perverts.

9) When did paying re-start? I note that the Transport Use graphs shown in the daily briefings from Downing Street still show the TfL Bus line stops in mid-April.
Fascinating to hear what's happening in East London.

From small-town North Berkshire (Oxon), I envy your ability to get decent coffee.

Our local market (the food stalls part) never ceased operating, and indeed diversified quite a bit, as small family firms that normally sell produce to restaurants, pubs, etc, instead decided to go directly to the public. Presumably the clothes section might start up again now, if space permits.

Otherwise most of the things I've observed here are, allowing for different context, broadly similar. Slow steps towards deconfinement. Haven't seen anything remotely approaching a crowd though!
1) Agreed! :(

2) Same round here, but number one has drastically reduced the number of pedestrians this week! :)

3) As a family of 7 this is frustrating - unless we drive through then join the back of the queue again! We barely ate there anyway but certainly won't be bothering now.

9) I expect fares will resume on the 15th with the introduction of compulsory mask-wearing. I've only been taking the bus to get my weekly shop home (walk there) and the number of young, healthy-looking, empty-handed people who hop on for 1-2 stops (a 5 min walk tops) has astounded me! Otherwise there's never more than 5-6 on-board the 2 routes that pass my house at any given time.

The eternal optimist in me hoped that this life-pause would see real changes for the benefit of our planet - even if only on an individual level, but it seems that personal pleasure trumps communal responsibility every time.

And it should be illegal to sell disposable BBQs. People wouldn't take a camping stove to a public park so why is a flimsy tray of burning coals considered a good idea!
Imagine all those cars nose to tail on the road again, and all those people shoulder to shoulder on the buses and trains and queuing at airports, and shoppers crowding along pavements and people eating and drinking in packed pubs and restaurants, and dancing in cramped subterranean discos, and thronging into open spaces for a pop concert, and carousing down the street late at night and...
I'm not sure I'm going to like things getting back to 'normal' if that's what we had to put up with!
9 - if they keep these restrictions how does anyone get to work when things go back to 'normal', the W7 for example, or school buses, and what about carers who use buses to travel between jobs.

18 - very neat for a spray can, plus its straight and legible - metropolitan elite graffiti rather than done by 'da yoof', although whether the C-19 friendly protests are a good idea for such a susceptible group is another matter.
3) McDonald's's reopening strategy is causing a lot of frustration because a lot of would-be customers have had their expectations built up but found themselves shut out by car only sales and the McDelivery provision is very patchy (the nearest ones are Hackeny and Walthamstow and thus too far for delivery to me; the Stratford Burger King must be laughing a lot). I wonder how many unofficial delivery services are springing up with car users buying for others with all the traffic and non-distancing problems that brings.

Many MDs drive throughs used to have a window for pedestrian sales when the seating inside was closed but the increase in 24 hour inside opening removed the perceived need and so many were refurbished out.
The Percy Ingle shop at the eastern corner of Roman Road has a 'shop for sale' sign on the Parnell Road side. Not sure if this means the shop will close or the freeholder is selling on without affecting the business.

The Hackney Well Street Percy Ingle has closed down, taking away one of my local carb-treat locations.
Being registered disabled with a FreedomPass means I am legally exempt from wearing a "face covering". I anticipate a few interesting conversations once I venture out on the bus, tube or trains again. As to the use of cashpoints, I refused to have Contactless cards when the bank decided to send them to me without my requesting the updated service. They were surprised when I complained on the phone to Halifax Bank. After a lengthy chat about requiring permission or notification in terms of service they sent me C&P only cards again!
I have that Percy ingles are actually closing the whole businesses down in 6 weeks time

Such a great shame if this is going to happen
Much as I miss 'normal' life - thanks for checking in on the area around my work - I definitely don't miss Ruckholt Road and its traffic.
Note Roman Road has become a car park. Tower Hamlets values metal boxes above the flesh and blood trying to queue for shops and cash points and flesh and blood trying to walk past. Are there any social distancing refuges in place in the borough other than the Old Ford Road filter?
Does McDonald's actually stop pedestrians queueing with the cars to use the takeaway window? What about cyclists or motorbikes?
Can't see how anyone opening their car window to pick up the order is any safer than someone on foot suitably spaced out.
