Although I do not live in London, I cannot stress how important travel planning is during an Olympics.
I had family in Atlanta when the games where held there, it was a nightmare to travel any where in the city.

I notice that no congestion is expected at Hackney Wick even though this website includes the London Overground. It is very near the Olympic Park (and right next to the press centre) but perhaps the authorities don't want visitors to see the underdeveloped nature of the area. Maybe this is the best option for Londoners visiting the Olympic Park.

Thanks for this. My main Olympic ticket (apart from some football) is the fencing at ExCeL on Sunday 5 August. To get from St Albans to there by 9am, the spectator journey planner thinks I should get a train at 1:40am to Luton, then change to a green line bus, and then two more London buses and walk 20 mins before joining the queue at 6am!! Two other options start even earlier. Very helpful I am sure.

Searching the TfL journey planner for the same trip on Sunday 5 February gives me several options all using the Thameslink, Jubilee and DLR, and all starting after the Olympic journey planner would have me arrive!

I wonder why St. Pauls is a hot spot? And not nearby Chancery Lane?

I note a complete absence of any useful data on the rest of the National Rail network...

I refuse to believe that all the spectators will be just using the tube, DLR and Overground!

@Andrew Bowden

They will, because vistors to London always do - National Rail is seen as "too complicated". Even some Londoners do: only today I was travelling with a friend from SWT territory into London: the friend was going to Victoria, but changed at Vauxhall rather than the (to me) obvious place!

I bet that most visitors to the equestrian and shooting events will use the DLR raher than the much faster SET services, as the latter aren't on the Tube map.

I was about to say "madness! How can that be?!"

Then I remembered my first visit to London where we used the DLR and tube extensively. Even when a friend decided we should race back to central London via DLR or rail, we went for rail.

And when visiting places like Paris, I've almost always been on the Metro not the RER.

We haven't received any detailed data from national rail yet, so this will be added shortly.

There are more hotspot stations to come. They are coming in batches as the modellers finish their work.

DLR information will be added too.

The website is aimed at people not going to a Games event. The London 2012 website is for spectators, this website is to help everyone else.

Hope that helps a bit. This is just the first stage. The website will be constantly developed and updated as we receive more information to share.

Hello "Someone who knows stuff".

We haven't received any detailed data from national rail yet, so this will be added shortly.

They're slow, aren't they? Given that TfL published detailed half-hourly information two months ago.

There are more hotspot stations to come. They are coming in batches as the modellers finish their work.

They must be very slow modellers, or striving for perfect accuracy, if they can't yet tell that Wembley Park will be busy.

DLR information will be added too.

So, essentially, the Get Ahead of the Games website has been launched with a massive splash before it's actually ready.

The website is aimed at people not going to a Games event. The London 2012 website is for spectators, this website is to help everyone else.

If I missed that subtlety, I'd suggest that future publicity needs to make this distinction more clearly.

This is just the first stage. The website will be constantly developed and updated as we receive more information to share.

It might be a good idea if that fact was made more prominent on the GAOTG website. As it is, I bet hundreds of people have already looked at their local station, and thought "oh good, it won't affect me".

Hope that helps a bit.

Absolutely - thanks for the information!

DG:
How accurate is the information on the TfL website for Stratford?

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/gettingaround/stations/1000226.aspx

I've never been there myself.

travel planning is a must, i know when you doesn't take it seriously how much it makes you suffer!!
