I used my very first mobile phone for 7.5 years: http://twitpic.com/1bsdgu

I'm still using it for trips abroad...
I've got a pomegranate phone too!
So you've just bought a Blackberry then? (My sympathies if so)
That Z470xi has served you well.
Is that still the original battery? That would be impressive. The battery life on the newer 'hokey-kokey-bells-and-whistles' phones seem to get shorter and shorter with each new version.
Battery life is definitely the biggest change when you get one of those all-screen phones. It's not really so bad once you're in the habit of plugging it in every night, but the transition is murder.

I still use a BB at work, despite an iPhone being on offer, due to it having roughly triple the battery life (used to be closer to 6x, but the new one is a bit thirsty). And the keyboard's not bad, either. But that's because I insist on keeping a personal phone (HTC One S, for the curious). If I used my work phone for personal use as well - as do most of my colleagues - the BB would be unbearable.
I only managed four and a half with my beloved N95 - I gave up on it before it gave up on me as there was so much on it I didn't want to lose. I miss it still and my new phone still drives me mad after nearly a year.
Upgrading my phone used to be an annual ritual, but I've since learnt the error of my ways (Giffgaff FTW)..

Now on year 3 of a beautifully intuitive (and yes, too expensive and too locked down) fruit-based phone - and still very happy with it.
I bought my Nokia 5110 (or it might have been 5120) in 1999 and didn't upgrade to a knew Nokia model until 2007. I only upgraded because the battery was dead as a dodo.
Yup, same battery for five and a half years, and it still lasted several days between changes right up to the end.

Oh, and rest assured, it's absolutely not a Blackberry.
I'm also still using a phone which is good for making phone calls, not much else, and happy with it. Battery still lasts a good 4-5 days with moderate usage, and i've had the phone for at least 6.5years.

Sadly as part of a job/country change in January, i'm going to have to get a new and allegedly smart phone. Anybody got any advice, as to how to deal with the step up/touchscreen?
People who change their phone every 5 minutes are mad. Have they made one that makes you a cuppa yet? I just want it to make a phone call and guess what? there arev some places in the UK where it won't - and they go on about 4G and smart phones? NO get the basics right before you try and extract more money from the mug public. Waste of money, I've had my phone for 10 years and it still (almost) does what I want - make phone calls!
Er, 5 years, 11 months on, and 2 months after upgrade, I'm still carrying my old phone around and using it for all the functions I haven't yet worked out how to replicate on the new one. For all its bells and whistles, my aperture-based phone can't do some decidedly simple things.

And the battery life issue with the new one is shocking - I've never had to worry about the battery dying before the end of the day after a night's recharging. But otherwise it's nice being part of the 21st century...!
Aaaargh, I'm going to get angry about technology and brag about how long I've had my old phone for. That makes me really cool, aaaaarrrrrggggh.
that's uncanny, I've had my old phone for 5 years. I don't actually want to get a new smart phone but my wife insisted. in fact she's been insisting for almost a year now until she threatened not to speak to me any more unless I got a new one...
I resent being nagged into getting a smart phone the old one was just fine.
The exif information in the photo you posted says it was an Apple iPhone 5 that took it.
I have a nice red flip top phone. It is 6 years old, it has the original battery and it makes phone calls and texts. It has also had no service for the last 6 months since we moved countries back to London!
My teenagers despair of me but it's all I need or want! :D
The phone I bought to use when I'm abroad has more extras than I could ever wish for, including (on the useful side) a radio and a torch.
It cost less than twenty quid.
I'm still hanging on to my 'old' mobile - I revisit the smartphone options regularly & never find anything compelling. I do work on the road but I can't use a smartpnone to access the services I need via internet/notebook...maybe an ipad maybe not..maybe..maybenot..maybe...
I can lose a phone too easily as well - wot about a nice chatelaine based smart-thingy...come on Mr Dyson...enter this bleedin market.
I get a little annoyed by people that go on about how long they've had their phone. That's fine if all you do is make calls. There really is no point getting a smart phone. For those of us who hardly make calls, and prefer to text, Facebook, and tweet then a smartphone is a must.
