DG cycling #surprised!
|
Well done, Peter, Lorenzo and Christopher.
I'm not sure DG is out of a job as his own unique style and, dare I say it - quirkiness - is the reason I've been reading this blog for nearly a quarter of a century. |
Swindon is a really convenient railhead for some lovely walks, whether north to the Thames Path, or south to the North Wessex Downs.
|
martin-Couldn’t agree more.
Mikey C-Yes all looks great. GWR fares on this route seem almost prohibitive though. If I’m out for a walk I need the flexibility of, er, a flexible ticket. |
well done Christopher, although the ride in pitch blackness sounds proper spooky
|
I enjoyed reading all of those, well done contributors.

Well done Lorenzo, Peter and Christopher, it is good to see the other contributions!

The bus back from Avebury to Swindon seems to be 2-hourly not hourly according to the timetable-extra drinking time in the Red Lion!

Proper job lads.
A few years ago I was exploring how to do a day trip to Avebury but none of the public transport links seemed to connect with each other eg the train arriving shortly after the hourly bus left etc and in the end I decided it just wasn't doable for the amount of time I'd have left to actually enjoy being there! Maybe I need to look again, going via Swindon. Forget a 12-mile walk - I'd take the bus both ways!! |
Cycling through Richmond Park at dead of night is not only spooky but can be hazardous. The deer wander all over the roads, and can't be seen until you are too close. I hit one many years ago, and more recently my son injured himself when he came off his bike trying to avoid one.
he was able to walk home, but if you are unable to walk, it could be several hpours before you are found. And the park is notiecably colder than the surrounding streets at night. |
Thank you all three guest contributors. Peter I know personally and it was he that first told me about this blog when we worked together on traffic issues in East London. I have been a daily visitor ever since thanks to him. I know he was chuffed to see his contribution posted.
Mind you the gentry of Devon were b@#st&rds with those pennies weren't they? |
I lived in and around Ottery St Mary and Honiton as a child in the 1950s. I don't remember the Honiton Hot Pennies but have never forgotten the dramatic Ottery Tar Barrels. Amazing the latter's managed to survive today's health and safety culture. It's about 65 years since moving away from Devon, but I recently discovered through taking a DNA test that I have several previously unknown cousins living in or near Honiton.
