I wouldn't have recognised a Middlesex flag, a county which was abolished before I was a month old. But having found an unlikely source of county flags on the gov.uk website, the symbolism that they convey has been perpetuated by only a very few contemporary county logos (Essex, Kent, Staffordshire and Warwickshire being some such).

I never really thought what Ruislip Lido's original purpose was. Shame it ultimately failed that purpose but at least it's left a well used amenity.

As a child growing up in Ickenham, my mother, sister and I visited Ruislip Lido a few times in the early 60s. The miniature railway was already there, but I don't remember the beach being anything like as large – or as clean.

As a regular walker of the Ruislip Woods (generally in a large anticlockwise loop from Bury Street) I've often wondered what the little ditches were at the bottom of the golf course!
I shall next walk it with enlightened eyes! |

I have wandered those slivers of green around Breakspear Road, Ladygate Lane, Howletts Lane etc many times but only knew it as 'the brook'. Beyond the Lido towards Pinner you will find Cannon Lane, stretching on into Roxbourne and Rayners Lane. I wonder if that is where it's name originated?

The last thing I expected to read this morning was a blog post about the stream flowing at the bottom of our garden (My family live on Knoll Crescent). Admittedly I had never given it much thought before today and have nothing to add to your excellent post, but at least now I know its name! Hope you enjoyed your visit
