Well happy birthday Green Line and thanks for these pieces DG, as a kid the Green Line coaches always seemed rather exotic to one growing up in a home county and dreaming of one day boarding one to London.

I saw a vintage-looking Green Line bus travel over Hammersmith Bridge into Castelnau / Barnes at about 12.30 this afternoon; would have taken a photo for had my hands not been full of shopping! Thanks for pointing it out DG - great stuff.

I waited for the 13:41 Hammersmith to Cobham 715 journey today. Guess what? No show! Clearly they were recreating a 1970s LCBS working, cut because of either staff or vehicle shortage... With the next one an hour later I gave up at that point! Better luck in 2010?

Well done DG for the excellent articles about the Green Line. I used to catch one of three routes from Kilburn to Colindale in the 60's..the 706, 707, 708.

The great thing about the Green Line was that their were far fewer stops along the Edgware Road so the journey was much quicker.

The fare also matched the slower 142 red bus. If my fading memory serves me well it was about 9d.

DG, every so often black and white film of London is shown on TV filmed from the front of a car. Do you know if there was any type of organised filming of the main roads in London. For an anorak like myself it would be fascinating to see how much the roads and buildings have changed. Similar to this one on YouTube.

There are some photos of the Green Line Road Run here.

When I was much younger the 708 was my lifeline - first of all from the boring village I lived in near East Grinstead to the high life of South Croydon (or, at least, the Olive Tree coffee bar and its folk/blues music in the basement (Georgie Fame played here).
Later, after uni and a training course, I used to catch the 708 all the way from Hemel Hempstead (where I had my first job) back home to see my folks. Then I earned enough to buy a car and I don't think I've been on a Greenline since. Now that I have my freedom oass, maybe it's time to reconsider... before they've all vanished.
