Does one get the feeling that you may not be quite 100\\% behind Boris?

I get the feeling someone would've poked fun at any candidate/winner, but Boris is the easiest to make 'really' funny!

Oh how I wish this was just a joke.

The only positive I can see is that Boris will so quickly screw up London that no-one will ever vote Tory again for a very, very long time.

Shame for we Londoners though.

This is looking like a dreadful day for London...

Yes, but people who live in glass testicles shouldn't have thrown stones . . .

I can only bear this sorry state for London by imagining him a real clown suit.
Perhaps the Conservatives will run Ken Dodd for PM next.

yes my feelings that itll be a dark day for london. theres literally several ominous dark clouds over penge now...

1. I am not a Boris lover (urrrgh! what a horrible concept...). Neither am I a Ken fan.

2. In fact, I reckon Ken and Boris are as bad as each other (to be said in the hectoring tone of a middle aged spinster school ma'am who has just broken up two brawling nine year old boys).

3. Whoever gets elected, let's give them a chance to prove themselves please? As Tony Blair back in 1997, the first 100 days of an adminstration can be an exciting - and most constructive - time. The new incumbent will get off on the wrong foot if all they are trying to do is protect themselves from media flak.

4. The election of Ken was widely expected to be a disaster for London (http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi\\_hb3335/
is\\_200005/ai\\_n8056306 is an incomplete article which harks back to the media feeling of 'the first time around'.

5. Finally, past performance is no guide to future delivery. 'Fare's fair' was a great idea on paper, but it was introduced in such a cack handed and ill planned manner that, when the dust eventually settled, patronage of London Transport was lower and fares higher than before.

'Fare's fair' was a great idea on paper, but it was introduced in such a cack handed and ill planned manner that, when the dust eventually settled, patronage of London Transport was lower and fares higher than before.

That's odd, I thought Fare's Fair was a great policy that was ruined by the same b*st*rd suburbanites who've now gone and voted for Boris.

Some useful resources for London residents/voters in this blog posting:

See you soon.

Keep Fairs Fair! Yes! It was Bromley Council, that bastion of right wing tories, that killed that off. What was ill thought out about it? Cheap fares that everyone could afford?
The problem then was there weren't enough buses running as there are now. And people are more enviromentally friendly, or whatever being green is called, and they choose public transport. As someone who's never driven & don't intend to I couldn't care less about fining slefish car drivers who block our roads to go a mile or two on their own in their motors.
The ONLY thing that stopped me putting Ken down as my first choice was how bloody expensive public transport is in London. It's a disgrace, being the most expensive in Europe, and a blot on being the greatest city in the world! Red Ken? Don't make me laugh. His transport policies are a shade of sky blue when it comes to pricing.

Boris WILL be a disaster, but having lived through the Thatcher years we'll cope, just! And at least we've got the fact he will fuck up, many times, to sort of look forward to.

And anyone who mugs off the scousers can't be all bad!

If he gets in, I'll see you all in Trafalgar Square Saturday at noon!

Why is it taking so long to count the votes? Are vote counters today allowed to play on their mobile phones while doing the counting or something?

Estimated declaration time now 10pm.

Why aren't we finding out who's won the mayoral race till 10pm? Perhaps having Londoners vote on three separate sheets of paper on the same day isn't such a good idea. Good thing I have DG's free paper here to help me pass the time...

BBC R2 news has just said that some bookies are paying out on a win for Boris.

BBC R2 news is about five hours behind.

It's amazing how good the internet is at dripfeeding agonising snippets of pre-announcement information.

It amsues me that it's Irish bookies paying out.

Just looking at your link there DG, there's a bit saying that it's opened postal votes that are jamming some of the counting machines. So much for the accuracy of certain commentators assertions on that subject yesterday...

*even more confused than yesterday*

Given that I'm someone who enjoys analysisng and researching to understand, all I can say, with apologies to Dave Allen, is, "May your god help you!" to the majority of the rest of the population.

This is starting to look like an unmitigated disaster.

Multicoloured sponsored buses, de-regulated underfunded rail and tube, canceled projects and shoddy maintainance here we come, yipeeee.

BTW - We don't ALL vote for the selfish, shortsighted and vested interest protecting b**t*rds here in the burbs.

Grrrr.

It seems hard to believe that at 10pm tonight I may hear that Boris has been elected as London's Mayor.
I am not a great Ken fan, but he does have such a long time experience in London affairs, and he has done wonders for the buses, and now with the Overground.
I gave up my car 2 years ago, and have used only public transport since, I wonder now, after a few months of Boris transport muddle will I have to consider buying a car again.
I am not looking forward to the next 4 years if Boris is in charge.
If Ken does lose, I guess it is partly his fault. A lot of people were not happy with the free unlimited travel for children on buses. They are too rowdy. If he wanted children to bus to school he could have made the buses free at school journey times only.
He did not listen to the people of West London when they were upset with the congestion charge extension.
He did have an incident with an Evening Standard reporter.
He is pro-multiculturalism, when many "experts" now say it is not the best way, as it causes ghettos.
A pity, Ken has worked hard for London, he deserves another term to see the fruits of his labours, (and for Londoners to benefit from such).
Is it time to emigrate, ….maybe I should have kept my holiday home in France!.
.

Well said John.

That just about sums it up...

"Multicoloured sponsored buses, de-regulated underfunded rail and tube, canceled projects and shoddy maintainance here we come, yipeeee.

Now, wasn't it here that I read about IKEA sponsored tube maps and card holders, the fiasco of tube station makeovers etc etc?

That's the world we live in, sadly. Doesn't matter whether the Mayor is Red, Blue, Green or Pink with Purple Spots.

As Alan said above, do give the new bloke a chance. I remmber Ken's early days 30 years ago nearly and the negativity was just as bad then. Probably worse.

And let's not forget that Boris called people of a certain colour 'picanninies' - I'm not so much worried about the transport as the burning bendy buses we might end up with in Brixton, Tottenham et al if he does become mayor and then doesn't keep his big, fat, over-priviledged mouth shut :

Well Ken couldn’t keep his big fat mouth shut about concentration camp guards, so I guess it just goes to show that prejudice is abound on both sides.

I'm delighted to be a Boris-supporting "b*st*rd suburbanite"

TheLondoneer - picaninnies is actually the correct word in a certain African language (although I forget which one) for young kids, rather like bairn is in Scotland.

I've not laughed so much in ages! Great stuff!!!
