Amazing looking building (although beware of new HQ syndrome, where the business goes a few years later), no doubt the young enthusiastic employee was also aware that failure to be publicly enthusiastic about Mike Bloomberg may have career consequences.

As for the actual media work, all the news/business channels tell you HOW IMPORTANT THEY ARE, and only their people get to the heart of the matter and ask the really important questions, switching it off is the best medicine - or watch The Day Today, the irony being that the piss taking over the top graphics actually won an award (so I believe).
I was on the 2:45 tour yesterday. Sounds like we had different guides but the message was essentially the same. I've been in a lot of office buildings over the years thanks to Open House but this one is amazing!
Thanks for the report, almost as good as going oneself.
The chairs or are they stools in the Pantry look uncomfortable. Some look as if they rotate.
I would love to know what the "ground breaking microphones" are.
I only got as far as my local station yesterday as the rain put me off. I only visit non-bookable venues.
Hoping for some dry weather this afternoon.
Adjustable desks?

In my office they were all the same dimension, except the bossman's, which was bigger. You felt grateful that the identical chairs had a bit of padded upholstery.
No doubt you are right, DG.

But I see no reason to think that Still Anon's comment is necessarily incorrect.

Or do you know better?

@John, the microphone system is called Meyer Constellation. Basically, microphones are built into the pendant light fittings, which then output through speakers in the floor. Means everyone at the table can hear everyone else - like a virtual whisper chamber.
Really enjoyed that report, thanks.
What's the oil drum doing in the middle of that terrace?

DG - from your description it implies there were two speakers, one from the company, one from the architects, you yourself draw attention to the evangelising, neither gains a career advantage in being half-hearted, unless there was a third person who wandered in off the street, in spite of that it is still an impressive space, and I gain no advantage from saying that.
Thanks Mathew for the microphone system information.
One day I'm going to write a post about the perils of using the phrase "no doubt" in a comment when you weren't actually there.
No doubt having microphones in the ceiling is one way to limit off-message asides from the corporate minions.

As I was reading this I was struck by how having vast amounts of money to spend on a flashy building allows you to build in a location right next to other flashy buildings and ultimately how vacuous that phenomenon is. St Paul's being the central flashy building that all others must respect in their orientation. Value systems as embodied in architecture are very interesting.
Many moons ago I was offered a job by the great man himself. Glad I turned it down.

No doubt no-one will believe me.....
The 'great man himself' is seen by many as trying to do 'the right thing' with all that wealth he's accumulated. I'm one of those who feels that way.
The ramp actually goes from 8th to 2nd, there's no 9th floor to my knowledge!

Post updated, thanks.

In terms of "what Bloomberg do", the media part is probably less important than the "selling convenient access to financial data for huge sums of money" part...

@John they are...
There is no doubt the new building is impressive but when the new entrance to Bank station finally open.
Their old HQ on Finsbury Square was pretty plush, considering they had had to renovate an older building. This one looks amazing. Good to see that the Pantry has survived the move.
cwj714: We would all love to know. Significant problems integrating the new entrance to the station fire control system. The London Reconnections blog has far more detail on that.
Ian Visits also visited.

(and has lots more detail)
