I think the pudding mill is a mill for processing or making puddings - i.e. lumps of things, perhaps even lumps of ordure. Compare tom pudding boats for carrying lumps of coal in Yorkshire, 'pudding club' and Pudding Lane which may refer to entrails and organs.

Ah, that'll be Dave Arquati of alwaystouchout.com fame. Good to see some minor internet celebs getting recognition.

(You didn't suggest any, did you DG?)

Am I the only one who is disappointed that Walford wasn't selected? On the other hand, good to see that none of the new areas are 'quarters'

Thanks Martin. I was wondering why that name was familiar - was bugging me!
Excellent choices all - except sweetwater, which is a bit yuck!

Re Area 2: so pleased to see Witches getting recognition at last, albeit covert :)

No Channelsea then?

Perhaps Sweetwater is a sanitised version?

I am a bit stunned by this. I thought in "legacy time" it was going to be a park. I understood about the Olympic Village becoming housing but I didn't realise they were going to build all over the rest of it too, leaving only a small patch of green between East Wick and Chobham Manor.

Speaking as a former victim of the great steaming pile of distilled idiocy and coding turd that was Websense's adult content keyword filter, I pity anybody who finds themselves in the position of Googling or attempting to mention their home town of Sweevaginaer.

How long before the pub in East Wick, located on the blasted heath that remains of the Olympic Park sells the new micro brewery ale "Witches Brew" at the hot nightspot downstairs in the basement - "the Coven Club"? Will the acupunturist next door call their shop "By the pricking of my thumbs"? Will local girls txt each other "Wen will we 3 meet again"? Will there be an opportunity in the park each year to burn in effigy Julian Assange -"the Wiki man"?

Before the Olympics, East Wick was home to the Kingsway International Christian Centre, Britain's largest pentecostal church.

They really won't like the fact that, according to Ollie's tweet, East Wick was deliberately named after witchcraft...

"Was thinking of "Witches of Eastwick" as well as it being E of Hackney Wick"

Rubbish the lot of them. So much for something new, something exciting. This is the sort of stuff you'd pay a brand committee thousands for only to get what you started with.

Really disappointed by this.

The name of Sweetwater is awful. It doesn't make sense anyway.

I had no idea they were doing this stuff (letting the public name geographical locations).

At least the other names make some sort of sense, even if they have such different "moods" from one another.

I couldn't care less about the Olympics, which is one reason why I stopped coming by your blog this year, but it's great for the many others who do care about it that you are covering the big and small details of it so passionately and so well.
