Does Eddie 8 really not have any permanent memorials, beyond a handful of postboxes?
Great Post, thanks
Interesting article. But I can't help thinking that we pay too much attention to royalty, an essentially obsolete concept.
There again, if tourism is going to be the only remaining source of income for the UK, I guess it matters.
Many of them of course serial killers and mass murderers. Henry V111, a nasty piece of work.
Time for a vote.
Queen Anne has a statue in the market place at Kingston but many people think it is of Queen Victoria. It's not.
George II looks very glum, but so would I with a pigeon on me bonce!

I'm surprised no one thought to put one of William the Conqueror near the Tower. What an Instagram miss!
Was on a bus going past St Paul's. Mother to small children: There's Queen Victoria.
Sigh. Really sometimes I just can't be bothered.

The William IV statue in Greenwich was originally at the King William Street (a clue there)/Cannon Street junction at the north end of the 19th century London Bridge. Built in 1831 when guess who was king.
I wonder if a lot were pulled down under Cromwell or maybe when Henry got rid of the Monastries ? Seems to be a lot of missing early monarchs.
This is fun.

Several early kings, and Lady Jane Grey, appear on the frieze at Middlesex Guildhall.

There is a statue of Mary II (along with Elizabeth I, Anne and Victoria) on the terracotta façade of the Russell Hotel.
The Middlesex Guildhall (where I worksd for a while in the late 60s) is now the Supreme Court.
