thank you for the explination. I wondered why Whitehall was being overrun by middle aged bearded men, Thought it may have been a new Mayoral policy.

A most enjoyable article. I hope there are such goings on when I visit London in July.

This put a smile on my face.

Well, your posting reminded me that we try to get out to see the bluebells at Ashridge most years, but this time we had almost forgotten. And so your posting prompted us - and so we did, thanks to you DG! Anyway, if you *were* able to get over there today you would have been slightly disappointed, I think they weren't has densely flourishing as they would have been last week. And the low light in the early morning would probably have been a better time; so must plan ahead next year.

Cheers Jag - your photos suggest a most enjoyable trip, and it's a pleasure to see what I missed out on. Next year, definitely.

Now this is something that you get only in Britain.

Do woodland bluebells grow with such beauty and profusion "only in Britain", Andrewh? I don't know, but I wonder about it.
I expect every country/region has its own must-see flora. The lupins in the South Island of New Zealand are a sight to behold too, if you're ever down that way at the right season.

What a coincidence, I went to look at bluebells in Beckenham Place Park! but they were already withering away, so disappointing. Will definitely get on it a few weeks earlier next year! Perhaps DG could set up a bluebell warning system so we don't forget?

I went to Thaxted a while ago and this was where in the 1930s morris dancing was 'revived' allegedly. Often these old traditions are less old than we think - it may be that morris dancing dates back to the -- well at least the 1930s.

Damn! Didn't go through the Square yesterday, as Charing Cross was shut. I looked in a Covent Garden, where there was the Covent Garden Festival, which included no less than TWENTY Punch & Judy Shows!
