The 140 route takes me back to my childhood. I remember the 10p fare from Mill Hill East to Heathrow. I think!
When I read "four express routes" I thought about 607, X26 and X68 as the other three.

Depending on the time of travel it is now possible to ride all three X routes back-to-back -- X26 starts on X140 and ends at X68, and vice versa. But taking all three from Harrow to Central London would be slower than simply taking the Met.
Many years ago I used to commute to Heathrow and would take the met line from West Harrow to Uxbridge then use the express A10 bus to Heathrow, the 140 was always slow and always late.

This would've saved me lots of money and time! More express routes is a great idea.
The people with their arms outstretched in vain probably became even more disconsolate if they were heading for Heathrow and found that they now have to change at Hayes & Harlington.
"...shop...selling accumulators..."

???
I always like your bus bloggs DG with your observations and comments. I even had a chuckle at the time of posting :-)
Keep them coming and a Merry Christmas to you.
It's great to learn of a new generation of bus enthusiasts. I was worried that they were a dying breed.
Following on from Patrickov comments it would of course be possible to travel from Harrow Bus Station to West Croydon via LHR all for £1.50. But not the reverse direction
I doubt if the accumulators were to power old radios (the sort I remember) but probably an offer at a betting shop.
They sneaked in a bigger frequency cut late evenings and early mornings, the old timetable had a bus every 10 minutes from Harrow Weald until 23:45, then 00:05 and the start of the night frequency, on the new timetable the x10 frequency lasts until 22:45, then every 30 minutes until 00:15, the first N140 leaves at 23:00, giving a combined frequency (but only as far as Hayes) with the 140 of x15 minutes until 00:30 - the last x140 had left Harrow long ago at 22:53.

They do the same from Harrow Weald early mornings, the old 140 ran x10 minutes from 03:50, then x8 minutes from 04:30, now the last N140 is at 05:00, the first 140 departs 03:45, giving a joint frequency of x15 minutes (and only as far as Hayes) until 04:45, the first X140 departs Harrow at 05:08.

So someone at Harrow Bus Station would have had eight early morning departures Mon-Sat through to Heathrow from 04:00 until 05:04 on the old 140, on the new timetable there are just two N140s at 04:09 and 04:39, then the first X140 leaves at 05:08 and the last N140 at 05:09.
I hope the Young New Bus Route fans mention you in their report.
Whilst the old route was scheduled at 59 mins it rarely did it in that except late at night. Average journey time for the whole route was nearer 90 mins sometimes 120. Okay the x140 lops off the last 15 minutes but even so. My problem now is I cant go direct from Harrow Weald to Heathrow unless on the N140
I wonder if the few minutes that the new express route cuts off the journey time will tempt a few people, particularly those coming from the west, to save a few quid and get the bus from Hayes and Harlington to Heathrow instead of the train. Step-free access at H and H would also make a big difference.
I wonder if it was a New Young Bus Route Fan I saw a couple of years ago on a South Harrow route - a lad of about 14-15 sitting above the driver's seat mimicking all the motions the driver would be doing, gear changes, moving the steering wheel, even down to waving at passing drivers of the same route number! It was so sweet.

There are several changes to our buses in Harrow this weekend. If ever I need to I can now go from my house to Northwick Park Hospital on the one bus, rather than changing at the Bus station!

I shall also enjoy shaving a few minutes off the Harrow to South Harrow (and vice versa) route if no H9/H10/114 is forthcoming, but when visiting Northala Fields it'd probably be quicker to alight at the station and walk rather than wait for a regular 140!
I've never been a fan of the colour-coded bus routes in this area, particularly as they are accompanied by a superfluous sticker in the upstairs front window blocking half the view, but the bus stop tiles when the 607 Express started were usefully coloured blue. If you emerged onto the Uxbridge Road between 2 stops you could tell if one of them was served by the 607 even if you were too far away to read the number. They're now standard black on white so look the same as any other from a distance.
In Manchester, Stagecoach recently cancelled its X92 "Express" bus because people kept prising the doors open when the bus was stopped in traffic near bus stops it didn't serve.

Hope the X140 has more luck!
You went past the house where I grew up. Having watched it go by, every 10 minutes at times, the number 140 bus holds a special place in memories of my formative years. Reading this brought them back!
