What a treat. No chance of a reprise with The Winner Takes it All? I guess.
|
"...merely underachieving at everything other than work."
Sigh. Life reduced to self-imposed performance targets. |
Excellent

One of my favourite songs because the lyrics are so clever and optimistic (although I've always thought the line about the newspaper editorial making the protagonist frown was a bit feeble).
|
A clever, interesting post. Thanks also for the link to the video, which is hilarious.

25 years ago. Sigh. Simpler times, when it seemed that things could only get better.
I had email at university as a matter of course in 1990, but I remember how unusual email still was in a business environment when I finally started full-time work in 1998. Memos, letters and faxes mostly, and the occasional outbound work emails checked before they were sent and inbound ones printed out when they arrived. |
Dude, get over it already.

I have Frida's soaring "operatic" vocal line near the end of the song, in my head now.
|
Those last two lines are epic! For me that day involved taking the car to the garage - I was due to be in Swindon the day after. My own pivotal tipping-point had been two years and ten months previous.
|
An editorial might make you frown because it makes you aware of a troubling issue you'd previously been unaware of.

In Jan 1998 I had a baby and two pre-schoolers, and had recently started a home-based business.
The whole year is a complete blur now! |
"I have never understood why Agnetha took an hour and a quarter to travel to work but three hours to get home."
A concept in Paris known as "Cinq à sept" |
What David said.
But thank you for reminding me of this, one of their best songs with such a gloriously subtle tune. |
Today's contrasting comments from 'David' have been from two different Davids.
So far we've only had a comment from one of the ambiguous Andrews and neither of the unidentifiable Ians. |
Such a wonderful post. Thank you.

Great post. Enjoyed reading. Thanks!
|
That is utterly brilliant! Straight to the top of my list of favourite DG posts.
|
I'm never sure if I find these cryptic glimpses into your personal life fascinating or frustrating.
At least I shouldn't be one of the ambiguous Andrews though. |
This post means my favourite 'Mystery Count' theory has just gone up in smoke. Oh well.
But thankfully the comments have given me a new theory to replace it. |
Great post. Loved it

You need therapy. And that's not writing this blog.
