Feels like you should monitor the activity of the nearby Horse Chesnut tree instead ðŸ¤

Yup, absolutely. The silence is deafening.

All part of the plan to force people off the roads. 20mph on main roads and months to do any road work, followed by a new set of road works down the road instead of being done together. Every TFL roadwork slows down traffic and causes congestion permanently afterwards to increase. The money and time and productivity lost every day is enormous, let alone time with family.
Three months for new traffic signals at Putney Bridge, for example, started this week. Adds 25 minutes a day to my son's bus trip to school, which is 3.5 miles long. |
The last project that I was involved in before retirement was the TfL led bike lanes from Stratford Gyratory to Bow. An abject mismanagement disaster, so nothing surprises me. The local boroughs are far more professional in managing projects.

What's happening to the buses on and around Putney Bridge is remarkably similar. Stops closed well before roadworks begin. No thought given to bus passengers. No signage at Putney Bridge tube warning that there are no southbound buses stopping on Putney Bridge and that you might for now be better off getting on here and changing buses elsewhere. It's as if TfL doesn't care about its passengers these days.

Who thinks they'll make it without the wires being snagged by a wayward ladder on a passing vehicle.

I’ve been out to check.
Still no roadworks. |
Sigh.

Roman: I’m not sure that increasing the number of traffic lanes - as detailed in a previous post - can be seen as part of a plan to force people off the roads. If anything I think drivers will be celebrating these urban realm works to make this intersection even more like the old GLC ringway / motorway plan. Pedestrians less so.

Terrible. In other TfL being hopeless news: it's almost a month after the massive changes to the W12/W13/W14/549 buses that you reported on, and apps still haven't been updated. TfL's own website maps are showing Schrödinger's buses, on both the old and the new routes at once.

Rare for an E40D on the 8 and Spirit is an even bigger prize.

I would normally be upset about a post that concluded with the summary of TfL Surface Transport being referred to as a 'bunch of muppets'. There are, as I know, some incredibly clever, committed and hard working people in that organisation.
However, given the chronological chain of events listed in the post, and like Scrumpy (and with Scrumpy!), having worked with them (or tried to work with them) on behalf of other stakeholders on the absolute debacle that was the introduction of Cycle Superhighway 2 (Bow Roundabout to Stratford) I fear it is groundhog day here. This has early indications of another complete mess, with disregard for all other parties affected. Last time it was absolutely horrendous for residents, businesses, and road users. I shall follow progress (or lack of it) with interest, and most likely with a sense of deja vu. |

Still no roadworks |
Couple of observations on westbound buses from Stratford to Bow.
Firstly, the closure of the Bow Flyover bus stop means that some buses are now using the flyover, rather than the roundabout. There’s no signed diversion - it just seems to be driver preference. Secondly, the extended running time between Stratford and Bow Church station (up to 29 minutes on weekdays in the daytime) means that 25s and 425s are bunching at Bow Church station, as that’s where crew reliefs take place - with buses waiting for lengthy periods until the replacement driver arrives to take over. In last few days some westbound buses are now showing a destination of Bow Church - not sure what they are doing when they get there - presumably getting out of the way to reduce congestion. |

Still no roadworks. |
Tuesday 8th October
Roadworks! (well, technically all they've done is cone off one lane on entry to the roundabout and switch on the new temporary traffic lights - no actual roadworks - but the traffic on Bow Road is already queuing back as far as Bow Church DLR) All bus mitigation is now valid. |
On Saturday a kind 339 driver stuck his head out from the cab to tell passenger that the following stop (OT) was closed. There were two number 8s stood there at their temporary stand but I'm not sure the two double deckers warranted a bus stop closure.

Anything unusual happening at the roadworks or just regular holes in the ground stuff now it’s started?
