Oakwood Underground Station then Trent Park!
I envy you men! We ladies can't pause behind trees for twenty seconds as easily so most of us probably just hold on!
Dave; you may well be correct but my initial thoughts would be somewhere west with DG's talk of large planes using Heathrow. Plus elephants - maybe an Indian cash and carry - Hounslow, Southall?
Like Tim I'm erring towards Southall, its McDonald's is locally famous for being rather elegant (big half timbered place that has been tastefully converted - one of their best efforts) and including two smart but slightly incongruous stone elephants in its front garden (and a stone McDonald's logo).
I'm no expert, but Southall-Bow avoiding central London sounds improbable, whereas Enfield would fit that notion better. And there does indeed seem to be no trace of DG mentioning a visit to Oakwood station.

But this is not just a puzzle. It's also DG showing us another of his many voices.
I’m sure this could relate to so many places, but I have a feeling DG is back in Hanwell and Southall... at least for the roadworks which have disrupted my commute all week, and the fancy McDonalds.
I loved this post.

One intriguing bit... "I used to drive a forklift truck once." When was that?
I hope DG will give us an answer. Southall doesn't have a tube station. I can't find the relevant Mcdonalds on Google Maps. Oakwood launderette does have a refreshingly basic font. Perhaps the post refers to more than one place.
Congratulations!
It was Southall AND it was Oakwood.
DG was on a 195 to Brentford County Court and that micropub has been in Hanwell since early 2017. I don't blame you for being blinded by LookingForBargain.com
You are the most creative person I know.
