If there was ever an example of 'hiding in plain sight', then a planning notice on lamp post would fit the bill.

'... especially by night', curiously quaint wording in the modern world, 'charming, funny and smart' almost makes Bernie sound like the kind of mouse you could share quality time with.

I walked along Fairfield road into Wrexham road and via a short section of the A12 into Wick Lane yesterday lunchtime whilst checking how many off licences there are within 500 metres of my house, it turned out to be eight and our paths must have nearly crossed DG, presuming this walk was done yesterday and not sometime last week.
There used to be at least four pubs on that walk as well

What's with all these "public phone boxes" going up?!
I noticed another one being installed in my local high street so decided to count them.

6 (4 BT and 2 black phone boxes) within 150m of each other is surely overkill, when I've never seen a single person using them!

I'm sure they all hold hidden cameras (lots of anti-social behaviour in this section of the street) and I'm pretty sure I also read somewhere that your phone is 'pinged' for data as you pass.

Whatever they are for you can be sure they're not there for the benefit of the public!
<cuts and pastes from Maximus website>

'Smart City data capture'; 'Traffic monitoring'; 'security camera'; 'Smart traffic sensors'; 'Driverless car enabled' (???); 'audience sensors provide advanced analytic data'; 'cameras allow public spaces to be monitored'; 'even more internal hardware'.

Strangely, no images of the animated McAds bang on the kerb that will never, ever distract any drivers.

Hmmm.... the boxless phone box functionality seems to be merely an afterthought, the sugaring on the pill, the tip of the iceberg. What could possibly go wrong?
Here's part of TfL's official objection to this phonebox planning consultation:

"TfL are sceptical as to whether there is a need for the new facility, given the widespread use of mobile phones and the provision of wi-fi, as well as the proximity of a number of other phone kiosks and similar in the area, especially given the absence of any means of blocking traffic and other surrounding noise when making or receiving calls, the claimed purpose of the kiosk would be seriously undermined."
The other two closed pubs where the Bromley Arms(closed 1997), on the corner off Fairfield Road and Hartield Terrace, the building can be seen on the right of Fairfield Road picture, and further along Fairield Road was the Caledoian Arms (closed 2000)on the corner of Blondin Street.

I once stood and took photos (don't ask!) on that section of the A12 north of the Bow Roundabout. It was not at all pleasant in terms of air quality.

Really surprised by the Wrexham Rd etc stretch. I'd never have guessed that was Bow from your photo.
Wrexham Road is an allusion. Looks all pretty, then to find it's sandwiched between a motorway and a bus garage
Wow. Thanks for the link to the 3D Pollution map. It’s fascinating.
The new cashpoint has been installed today. It looks a lot more modern than the old one, but is not yet operational.
There is a spate of these advert-phone totems going up. BT are replacing call boxes with the InLink screens with similar functionality (powered by roads that lead to Alphabet/Google) as fast as they can. The Planners are in a weak position, as call boxes are easy to get through the system as communications infrastructure, even though these are primarily advertisement structures... with the phone providing the convenient loophole.

I agree with Gerry. This link is worth a read too.

The new cashpoint is now operational...

...or rather it's flashing up 'Out of Service - Do not re-enter your PIN', so that's not good.
Something that is only useful to very-locals - a bottle of milk is cheaper in Fairfield Express than it is in the Co-Op by the DLR station.
The 108 bus timetable has been replaced, and Bus Stop M now has its full set again.
