A Thamesmead to Barking shuttle ferry would be a good idea to gauge support for any future links…
Well that's my frivolous trips into Central London with the baby/pram sorted.

Hooray for new step-free links.
The mix of curves & corners on that map is irritating, and why show the dangleway but not the foot tunnels at Greenwich and Woolwich.
Because there’s no charge (profit) for the foot tunnels.
As a Barking resident, I shall try out the new river boat service as an alternative route to Greenwich. Note that there is a 50% reduction in river boat fares for Freedom Pass holders.

I'm surprised it's not been decreed that it should be 'nopersonsland'.
Meanwhile plans for a pier at New Providence Wharf seem to have fizzled out.
Interesting how much better the riverbus service is in the east. Putney remains weekdays only and even then it's not all day. The Wandsworth Riverside pier is closer to hundreds of new flats than the alternative train service. TfL is also still struggling to extend bus service into the Wandsworth development. I think the new 485 bus stops went up around a year ago and yet still no buses.
A bit disingenuous to compare the current Barking Thames Clippers catchment area to that of Battersea. At weekends at Battersea averages about 30 people per boat and the evening commuter traffic is quite busy.
ap - And the 485 bus stops have disappeared without trace at some point in the last few weeks, so looks like that change ain’t happening any time soon.
In other countries they build piers and have an integrated boat service. So Thamesmead to Barking Riverside then up river would make logical use of the service. But that would be too clever!
It's almost like Thamesmead are being trolled - no decent road link (East London River Crossing being canned), no decent rail link (Crossrail carefully skirting round the south end on its way to Abbey Wood), and now a boat link they they can see but can't touch :)
Pier opened for service Friday 22nd April.
So that's impressive.
I can confirm that it's a very long pier.

Once you've disembarked it's a 2½ minute walk to the riverbank and 4 minutes in total until the path reaches a road.

Nobody lives within 10 minutes of the boat.

...but a handful of people are using it.
