Perhaps it means 15th March 2021.
Depends on what you class as sport, e-gamers have never had it so good, no worries about social distancing on Twitch.

Although I enjoy the major cycling tours, and have sympathy for those athletes towards the end of their careers for whom 2021 (or 2022?) may be a year too far.

sport? please spare me the never ending calendar of that. my local barbers cant talk about anything other than football. does my bloody head in.
I am vaguely missing televised sport, but not as much as I anticipated that I might. What has deflated me has been the cancellation of several golf tournaments that I planned to visit. Nothing beats a dawn start on some beautifully manicured course, followed by 8-10 hours of fresh air and exercise, interspersed with a few beers - strictly for hydration purposes you understand.

However, such thoughts must be kept strictly in context amid the unimaginable, ongoing and horrific death toll, and the enduring heroism of so many in our society in 2020.
I don't follow any sport whatsoever personally, so for those family/friends/colleagues etc who are missing it, I can't say I'm able to understand quite what they are missing.
It's only sport so it doesn't matter...

Yet it's also a job and career for thousands of behind the scenes people including back of house staff, broadcasters (not just those on screen but the technicians, camera operators, sound engineers etc), matchday stadium staff, ticketing staff, programme writers, merchandising (manufacturers through to sellers). The list could go on....

These people often earn peanuts in comparison to the players on the pitch. The cancellation of sport affects many.
I am missing watching snooker (the only thing I turn the TV on for) but I'd happily watch repeats, especially from the glory days of the 80s when I first got into it.
The PDC darts Home Tour starts on Friday and will be on every night for 32 nights. A canny move by Barry hearn.
DG could take a wander to another corner of the park and find the studios of a well-known sports broadcaster - next to the front door are the logos of the various events they'd normally show but which are suspended until further notice. (Except for WWE, which has managed to have itself declared as an essential service in the state of Florida, so is continuing behind closed doors).

As Hadders says, getting this stuff on air takes a lot of people - many of whom are freelance, and saw all their bookings wiped out in the course of an afternoon.
Sports that can still be done without coming within 2 metres of other competitors or referees

- snooker, billiards etc
- darts
- golf
- most racquet sports (singles only, not squash)
- athletics (field events only)
- motorsport (sprint/hill climb, so no pit crew)
- sailing

No live spectators of course.
Once we start coming out of lockdown televised Snooker should logically be one of the first sports back, with strict rules to allow players to return to their well separated seats before the next player takes their turn. Other than their own cue, the players touch nothing, while the referee wears gloves anyway...

And unlike other sports, little chance of injuries placing a burden on the hospitals either.
"sport finds itself unexpectedly meaningless"

Not unexpected in this household!
My 85-year-old friend who watches Sky Sports constantly is devastated, disoriented and dejected.
martin - I was only five minutes away at the time, so I dropped by...

I'm surprised that the fairground operators of the "Roll A Ball" horse racing games haven't been offering their services to the betting industry.
Snooker players touch the table ...
However, that's a good suggestion, because in some tournaments the early rounds are played without a live audience anyway. The downside is that a lot of the players come from overseas, which is probably actually what's killed it, rather than the logistics of playing the game. I'm glad I didn't bother getting tickets for this year after all now.
The Anniversary Games aren’t cancelled yet. I had an email from them earlier this week.
The Anniversary Games were finally cancelled on 12th May.
