So it was you I saw on the train earlier.
And tomorrow you’re riding the extension to Ebbsfleet?
Journey finished 07.52, article posted 08.00. Impressed.

Also loved the last paragraph demonstrating what a fine logistical and budgetary success Cross rail has been.
We can thank Boris Johnson for this planning success. Such a shame he never got to be prime minister
I'm not based anywhere even close to London and am rarely required to visit (although bizarrely I was there for two days last week). I do not understand just why all this is SO important.
Sorry to nitpick, but your first link to the press release announcing the completion appears to be duff.
Doh
It was great that Boris was willing to buy an Oven Ready Crossrail. Guaranteed problem free. So good to have achieved this fifty years to the week after the first section of the cross Paris RER opened.
To become a member of the SFWA (Science Fiction Writers Association) you have to be paid at least 8 cents a word.
This article is sufficiently convincing to make me question the veracity of DG's regular posts.
Another jewel to adorn our nation's capital, like that beautiful garden bridge that opened last year. I can still remember the triumphant opening event, with those spectacular fireworks.

And we can look forward to that fantastic new estuary airport opening in the next couple of years. To coin a phrase, we have never had it so good.
it was lovely to finally meet you at last DG! i knew you'd be on the first through train.
I must visit this fabled place where excitable teenagers can be found at 07:52
...And then you woke up...

Nothing beats a serving of dg sarcasm on a Sunday morning 🙂. Brilliant as usual dg.
Well, thank goodness that's over. Spending the night in Abbey Wood was always going to be a lowlight of the year, but it was almost beaten by the interminable slog up the Great Western Mainline for sheer pointlessness. I mean, who, apart from me, cares that I've taken the first train to run the whole length of Crossrail, much as who cared that I'd been onboard the final D Stock train into Ealing Broadway, or not quite found the hundred quid to ride the last 125 into Kings Cross? Now, had I managed to meet the elusive DG, or perhaps even the wandering Geoff Tech or Roger French then that would have been a coup, but I secretly suspect they've had their staff writers out this morning, saving them the bother.
I am not convinced that a piece of science fiction exists here. What this article describes are apparently facts, and not directly related to science.

It's just that these facts have not happened in the same timeframe as some readers here presume.
Sorry to nitpick, but Christ some people are not the brightest. Roll on Brexit.
You mean to say that you’ve not met DG before now Geoff?
That Crossrail 2 site is a sad place. Hope you've booked your place on the inaugural Northern Powerhouse rail journey.
Love it! Those of us working at various TfL offices cunningly located on the Jubilee line are mighty pleased that Crossrail has relieved the previous horrendous overcrowding we endured.

You ought to get off at Iver some time (if you'll pardon the expression). Richings Park - which grew up around Iver station - should have enough of interest for one of your blogs.
Oh well, I reeled one in....
> 0752, an hour and twenty minutes after leaving Abbey Wood

Reading writing and arithmetic. Incredible news.
I wonder when they're going to get on with building Old Oak Common station. Now that HS2 construction is in full swing (surprised you didn't mention the increasingly huge building site you can see out the right hand side) it makes sense to start it sooner so it's ready for 2026!
Gregg, there is no HS2 construction work taking place anywhere. All that is happening is ground clearance work and demolition, etc. There has to be an approval to proceed notice given for real work to commence.

£88Bn or whatever it will now cost is a ridiculous waste of money that could be better allocated country wide to a whole host of meaningful transport infrastructure projects.
I love blog posts like this, they are so economical.

Write it once, then you get to re-use it annually for at least 5 years.
And then I woke up. According to Real Time Trains there were no departures yesterday (Crossrail or not) from Abbey Wood at 0632. Train 9R18 did not leave Paddington bang on 0700 but four minutes late and arrived at Reading 3 minutes late so if you were on it maybe your watch is wrong. But a good read, I was nearly taken in.
Gutted. I beleieved this was true for almost a full 24 hours. 😔
The BBC was reporting most of the day yesterday that the Crossrail line will run from Reading to Shenfield.
theoldvinylfactory.com
"Come 2019 and the introduction of the Elizabeth line, this will be a location unrivalled."

Do you think someone should tell them?
You are three months early, or possibly nine months late with this story. It belongs on April 1st.
A message from the future - specifically the actual Crossrail stage 5c completion date.

No through trains from Reading to Sheffield (and there may never be any), and no adverts plastered around the walls. However I was confused for a second as Geoff Marshall did indeed post a viral video last year about walking between Circle line stations, and a lot of details are frightening accurate. Such is the genius of dg. At least we're finally done with Crossrail.
