An additional one is Yummy Pot in Maverton road, a small trailer selling copious amounts of Coffee to the workmen stocking up at Screwfix and Toolstation.

Also the excellent new:
- Hiland Cafe, 467 Roman Rd, E3 5LX
- The Peanut Vendor, Gunmakers Lane, E3 5GG
(both of which support your conclusion about the northward drift of good coffee in Bow...)

dg writes: Added, thanks!

There are now some very good cafes in the View Tube, Here East and East Village parts of the Olympic Park, but these are just over the E3 border...
Good to see your definition of E3 by the use of inland waterways.

The east of London's changing fast
They're drinking lots more coffee
Which flavour muffin will they choose?
It's got to be banoffee.

Gen-trif-ic-ation's in the air
And to E3 they went

I'd like to see you report on the turf war going on in the City some day. You can't turn a corner without running into a Starbucks, Costa, Nero or Pret. Especially a Pret. Unfortunately.

dg writes: I did that way back in 2005 :)

Of course, the real best cafe in the City is Coco Di Mama - because they do pasta as well. And their drinks are good. Maybe their tea is even alright. But I can't imagine what you think of chain cafe tea.
P.S. Of those big four, Costa wins by virtue of having both the best drinks and best food. Especially when I need breakfast.
The greenway cafe has changed management and thus has a new website https://www.thecommone2.com/greenway/ - although according to my google maps the greenway itself as actually on a finger of E15 and therefore not E3.

dg writes: The View Tube is actually in E20, 400m outside E3. Good to have it back.

Plus E3 does extend just north of the canal at Wick Lane, which adds the lovely Growing Concern into the mix (canalside garden centre with posh coffee available).

dg writes: Added, thanks. I'd never noticed the drinks, only the lovely plants.
According to the Greenway Cafe's website it's got an E15 postcode (because its postal address is Marshgate Lane maybe?)

dg writes: ...yup, according to the Post Office it's got an E15 postcode, even if the Olympic Park is E20.
I have it on very good authority that Coffee Espresso at 1a Burdett Road are actually squatters who are taking advantage of an empty shop unit.
I'm fine for coffee. It's bacon rolls I can't find. The Counter Cafe used to have a great bacon roll with relish, and I used to like the various bacon baguette combinations at the ViewTube. But the Stour Space didn't seem to have anything comparable. And I haven't been to the ViewTube replacement, but their other cafe looked, umm, niche and expensive.
There's a Costa Express at the Shell petrol station Wick Lane E3.

dg writes: There is indeed. You may remember I did a review in my April 1st podcast.
Never been to Paper and Cup on St Paul's Way? It's south of Bow Road and an absolute gem of a place. Walk to the bottom of Mile End Park and you'll find the delightful Husk, which stays open late most week nights and is a fab arts venue, or the Yurt Cafe, the other side of Limehouse station, run by the St Katherine's Foundation.
Paper and Cup alas closed in November.

The Counter used to do an excellent breakfast - I hadn't realised it had changed hands. I believe the owners also run Crate Brewery, which I'd imagine is a more profitable enterprise.
I'll have to give the new Stour Space place a go and see how they compare.

dg writes: Alas the Counter Cafe closed in November, after 8 years, following a dispute with the landlord.
