I'm pretty close to Mr Average, but am rather seeking recognition as the most changed DG regular in the past four years. When I began reading, I was in my 20s, single, living in London, checked in every day without fail, and had my own blog. Now, I'm 32, live in New York, have a girlfriend, only read once in a blue moon and have given up blogging. I'm still a straight bloke, but maybe I'll work on that over next two years? This is America, after all.

I wonder about us far flung readers ,
I am a Londoner but now live in Thailand
and visit DG everyday, would be interesting to see where other people are reading DG from around the world..

I'm in Melbourne, Australia.

Another (none-too surprising) statistic:
Between midnight and 7am more than half of my readers are from outside Europe.
Between 7am and noon that drops to 5\\%.

You are right, not enough kittens ... actually I cannot remember how long I have been coming here, only that it has been a long time ... and so good I still keep coming back for more.

Between midnight and 7 am not only do you have UK domiciled insomniacs but folk like me that are on the night shift

I'm curious - why do you want to know if your readers are staight or gay? It's not as if you write about sexual politics.

Interesting results!

I'm probably like your Mr Average. However, visiting your pages every day etc. Only I do so wherever I am, and from whatever device can access it from. So your blog has been visited by me from many different countries over the years, sometime on laptop, sometimes mobile phone, sometimes 3G PDA, iPhone etc. It would be interesting to analyse the user agents in your server logs (if you've got access to the archive of them over the years.)

On the bloggers question, I think only a few years ago blogging was very incestuous - only bloggers read blogs - but now they are more widely seen as a contribution to the commentary on society and are read by many more surfers.

I did the survey and I ticked England because I actually live in Hertforshire (no vote on Ken). However, I grew up in a London borough and travel into London 5 days a week for work. Therefore I have a keen interest in your London focussed posts.

"straight-but-coupled 30-something male blog-reader from the London area"

Yup that's me....Mr Average DG blog reader. *sigh*

i live in belgrade, serbia and convinced i was a londoner in my past life. i love your blog.

I'm another Mr Average; 31, married, non- (ex-) blogger, daily reader. And I've been reading Diamond Geezer for around five years, now. That's a staggeringly long time.

I note with interest that there are 37 gay/lesbian readers that are single, which unlike the heterosexuals is a higher percentage than those that are in relationships. DG, given they're such a reasonable number of people I think you should throw a party for them - maybe their Mr/Mrs right is lurking amongst the other 36

They can then join the 31 of us that are involved (me and the other half read your blog daily so that's 2 of us accounted for)

And I also think you should really have included "metrosexual" as one of the choices (you know, blokes like Beckham for instance, who moisturise and wear their gf's pants). We are in London after all...

"maybe I'm still not posting enough kittens"

Seriously?

A tip - be less patronising to women, and more of them might want to read what you have to say.

I for one will be unsubscribing.

You'll have to get your flag out again DG

I think that the fact so many people read his blog is a tribute to the quality of DG's work.

Keep 'em coming, DG!

Kate - no, I think not seriously.

Well I'm definitely not your average reader, I'm female and in my 60's, beem married twice, but I love trains, maps, London History and trivia in general, so will keep reading. Kate, where's your sense of humour?

I actually have no idea how long I have been coming here daily..I guessed 2006, but I suspect it was a while before that as you are on the blogroll of my first blog.
Whatever - I love ya DG!!

Kittens are always so terribly controversial, aren't they?

Disgruntled readers might want to subscribe to kate's (well argued) blog instead.

I'm an almost average. 63 years old, Londoner by birth and inclination but live just outside now, married, blah blah.

If I don't read the blog every day I always catch up when I do visit because there's always something interesting to read. Keep up the good work DG.

given that you only had the vote open one day, doesn't that weight it slightly in terms of daily or not readership...?

Yes amanda, my survey is utterly flawed throughout. But at least it's consistently flawed every time I run it.

Checking in from Chicago!

I am defenitely not one of those average readers. I am 14 (15 soon!!!) and I am single obv. though in sometimes I wonder if that is not obvious considering I know 8 year olds who are more "in the know" than me.

I come here everyday and I don't mind kittens but I prefer what you have to say especially the "tube watch" and the all the stuff about the tube. As you can probably tell I am no normal 14 year old. Heh. Oh I also have a blog too. It's not brilliant but I try!

I`m your average older reader, 59yrs widower, read everyday. First visited the site in 2005, drawn by tips on what to see in London.
Born and raised in Middlesex left in 1965, now I live in the Netherlands.

I'm glad to read that your readership has aged slightly over the last couple of years. I thought it was just me.

I'm Mr Average too! Male Londoner, 32 yrs old, engaged, visit pretty much every day. Your efforts to post something every day are very much appreciated and it's always good stuff!

Forgot to say, no blog. But I do share your passion for London's history and neighbourhoods, and I work for TfL so love the commentary on our capital's transport network!

Missed the survey yesterday, because I was actually overnight in Ipswich !

Please - we don't read you in order to read about kittens!
If I hadn't already read tomorrow's posting (does that make sense? - well, 6 March) I might rant and rave about the statement being sexist! But I'm not taking offence.

LOL! There are far too many kittens on my own blog (actually, there are far too many kittens in my house), so please, no more. Keep up the fine work and the relative sanity!

A not at all patronized and unaverage woman reader.

What do you mean, the yoof are away on Bebo etc.? 20-40 IS yoof. And as for sexuality, what about the "I'd rather have a nice cup of tea" sector?

oh woops i almost got to the end of the survey, then couldn't remember at all how long i'd been reading, wandered off and forgot to come back. i would have added to the female and 20-something readership.

Another (near) daily reader (honest, I'm here on a Saturday aren't I?) who by pure chance missed the survey, so thought I'd add to the tally of female readers. Still reading, since coming across the blog at the tail-end of 2003, still blogless and still single. Though not in my 20s anymore, sigh.

And forgot to say, still a Londoner!

I'm a 17 year old female from ipswich.
I guess i should direct my kitten loving "yoof" eyes elsewhere. Ha.

Started reading your blog in 2008. I love your writing style and insights. Not surprised that so many are long-time readers.

I drop by to the real blog (not RSS) about once every week or so and usually spend a while reading through the various posts and comments.

Usually means there's 30-60 comments already on all but the latest entry that I read, which is interesting of itself.

I probably fit somewhere in your demographic

Started reading you in about 2004. Still think you are one of the best bloggers on earth. In fact you could go cosmic you're so good.

Hi, from South Africa.
