Prior to the "austerity Olympics" in London in 1948, I took a penny from my money-box and bought a postage stamp with the Olympic rings on it as my souvenir.
I know it's still around the house somewhere but I can't find it. Pity - it might be worth something now.

I should have done my homework on the postage stamp. Have now discovered it was not one penny but twopence-halfpenny, and is now worth approx the same in terms of value. So much for my investment...

I am very tempted to visit, pick up loads of goodies, go to the till and offer my Mastercard credit card. And when they tell me they only accept Visa I tell them that I only agree to pay with Mastercard then walk out leaving the staff to put all the stuff back.

does that mean they don't take cash either? hor ridiculous

Twenty-eight quid for a t-shirt? Ten quid for a miniature chip fork (wooden ones are still free I believe...)? Crazy.

Have you bought your Olympic souvenir £5 coin yet?

Now come on, BW, it's ten quid for a pair of chip forks, not just one, which you can keep "in your wallet ready for use" - and presumably put back there after use too.

I would have thought that Olympic condoms would have been a better thing to keep in one's wallet ready for use AQ ;)

Did they do those in the shop?

I love Pedantic Of Putney's suggestion.

Look at the website - do they actually think people who don't have a Visa card are going to go out and apply for one so they can use it to shop in the 2012 store?

I'd quite like one of those 2012 badges. But I live in Canada, I need a European credit card (ahem, sorry, *Visa*) and it'll be 24 quid to ship. A badge. 24 quid to put it in an envelope and write Canada on it.

Wankers.

Walked past the shop today and wondered if you knew about it, one step ahead as always.

Do they sell olympic torch?

How much???! I would have walked out empty handed too! What a lot of over-priced tat! I did rather like the London 2012 hoodie, but not enough to pay 32 quid for!!

Quin's last word on the subject summed it up for me. Pithy!

My comment about condoms yesterday probably didn't make sense to anyone who didn't hear the R4 programme last week about the increase in the sex trade around all Olympic venues.

Already, the support services are noting increase in male and female prostitution and illegal sex worker trafficing, in the East London area.

Very sad.

I thought your comment about the comdoms was related to the joke about them bringing out Olympic condoms in bronze, silver and gold and the woman buying her husband silver ones as it would make a change for him to come second.

Is there a sign on the way out that says "for everything else, there's Mastercard"?

Wenlock's only £20 at John Lewis! And you can pay by MasterCard

An interesting aspect of the pin badges is that if you buy them in a set they actually cost more than buying them individually. The 'box set' of 5 logos (£5.00 each) costs £29. Plus £4.95 delivery.
