Covid may have forced a re-think on anticipated future demand for public transport and what new infrastructure may be needed. However, I'm not sure it's 'associated debts' are really a factor; it seems to me the decisions to cut spending are purely political ones taken by Osborne and Sunak.

The other factor is "rebalancing", where the government won't want to be seen to be always investing in London, and instead will want to spread the "goodies" out across the country.

Especially with the Boris/Sadiq situation, which feels quite personal.

Surrey Canal Road / New Bermondsey Station won't open before 2025, according to a recent planning doc. The overall NB development is finally making reasonable progress, it's getting more and more likely that the station is going to be built.
