Happy birthday, hopefully first in.
Happy Happy Birthday!
Many happy returns. Look forward to seeing summary of your special day.
Happy Birthday.

I agree with Indiana Jones/car dealers that it's not the age, it's the mileage.

Would the children of a cleaner and a postman have the same social mobility today?
Grrr... only fourth. Have a great day !

Glad you used 'Senior' and not the wretched TLA that unthinking people still use.

Grab all the goodies to which you're entitled; sadly there's still a lot of prejudice against Seniors, something which wouldn't be tolerated against any other minority, so get your own back.
Happy birthday DG
Sixty is the new Forty
Since you were born, the Earth has gone around the sun 60 times. That is the Earth’s achievement, not yours

Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Many happy Super Off-Peak Day Returns!
Happy Birthday DG!
Happy Birthday dg. Have a good one. It's a lovely day for it.
Warm and sunny to boot, hurrah 🔆
Happy Birthday DG. If I last another month I’ll be 65 not out and everything still working, have a good one.
Happy birthday! And thanks for the deft subbing the other day.
60 is fine!
Happy birthday DG!
Happy Three Score years!

I liked your reference to bases so also:

Happy 50th duodecimal!
Happy 140th in senary!
Happy 220th in quinary!
Happy 330th in quaternary!
Happy 2020th in ternary!
Happy 111100th in binary!

And for good measure, happy 3Cth in hexadecimal!
hb dg

I've bought the daffodils, unfortunately they take at least 24 hours to open so my wife won't fully appreciate them until tomorrow.

I'm glad you're already organised regarding age discounts. Even though I've now recently gone through 66, I have twice forgotten at my barbers. Even yesterday I didn't spot the concessionary fare on our Thames river cruise (Hampton Court to Kingston) until it was too late, the £1.80 reduction (in this case) soon adds up.
Happy Birthday and thanks for the last year of brightening up my day.
Happy birthday DG. Long may you continue!
Happy birthday, DG, and I wish you many more happy years to come.
Forget the content. Brilliantly structured and composed and so readable.

Tugged at my heartstrings too.

Happy Birthday DG
Congratulations and all best regards on your birthday, and thanks as ever for providing me with a free daily dose of interesting prose and pictures. It really is appreciated.
Happy Birthday DG nd many Happy Returns.
Having past the 60 milestone many years ago I regard 60 year olds as young!
Best wishes for your birthday and enjoy using your <snip>
60 also used to be when my employer insisted we retired, but the law means that employers can no longer make you leave just because of your age, meaning one of the biggest decisions of my career (when to stop) suddenly became my own responsibility.
I agree with Brian.

Sixty is the new Forty.

Many Happy Returns of the Day DG.

My Uncle was born 9th March 1930, so would have been 95 this year, if he was still with us. He made it to his 90th birthday, and got many years use of his ‘bus pass’. I hope you do too!
Happy Birthday.

Considering your (as seen from the perspective of your blog) lifestyle it looks like being 60 should be a quite significant financial boost.

Have you made an estimate of the savings a typical blogged month should accrue? - given your love of stats and numbers I'd wager you have (don't worry, not expecting something as personal as actual numbers).
A very very happy birthday to you DG, and an equally big thank you for all the wonderful education & entertainment.
Happy Birthday!
Enjoy your Birthday DG, look upon it as your 2nd 30th and have a great day
Happy birthday, and many happy returns.

Thank you for your blog, which is a wonderful gift to many people you will never meet.
DG, it's not so bad, use the Mayan countng system, you are 30! have a happy birthday
Ken,

I had my haircut yesterday. Halfway through I was looking at the price list and realised the Senior Citizens price only applied Monday-Thursday. It's funny how little things like that upset one a bit as it does when one belatedly realises one could have paid less if only ...
Happy Birthday!
Happy 60th, a diamond birthday for a Diamond Geezer.
Happy birthday ☺
I've drunk in the King Harold's Head - when it was still a pub ...

You wait, though ...
Inside every 75-year old is a late-teenager wondering what the hell happened.
( I'm now 79 )
Happy Birthday - wishing you many more.
Happy birthday 🎂

You may be well placed to find out all the benefits one can receive for reaching the age that used to be when people took state pensions. And any additional mailings, like rising chair catalogues.
Happy Birthday DG and enjoy all the benefits reaching age 60 brings.
Happy Birthday DG!
Happy birthday and enjoy being a mere stripling in the over 60s age group.
Happy Big Birthday DG XX
Happy Birthday from someone who hit sixty last Summer!
Happy Birthday!
Happybirthday dg. I went past 60 like I had all the previous 0's, although I did buy lifetime National Trust membership on the grounds that if I lasted 10 years I would be in profit. Having done that 70 seemed much more significant - I thought that from now on my demise will be less and less of a surprise when it happens.
Happy LX Birthday DG
I hope you are enjoying an excellent birthday. 60 and 70 heralded big changes for me, mostly wonderful. Yet I did not like being 30. Now, I feel that 80 has been a bit of a reminder of old age, although ABBA Voyage made it a great birthday evening. You get a bit more tired after a day of activity. Your blogs are still a wonderful read every day, an incredible achievement, thank you!
Diamond Geezer - Giving people a reason to get up in the morning since 2002.

Happy 60th!
HB DG, welcome to the club.
If you book a free ticket to see Dippy the diplodocus at the Herbert museum in Coventry you can get 50% off entry to the Transport museum.
Have a great day, DG; daveid76 gets it just right – you keep us going, and so should you.
Happy Birthday - 60's's a good place in my experience.
Are the comments for yesterday's post safe from spoilers? I haven't been yet so don't want a suprise.

Happy Birthday, DG. Welcome to Snipers Alley. Still, as my Grandad used to say, it's better than the alternative.
Happy birthday DG from another who vaguely remembers that milestone many years ago. Bits are beginning to struggle a couple of decades or so later.
Happy Birthday DG!
Happy birthday young man.
Happy Happy Birthday DG
Happy Birthday
Hope you had a fab day.
Can we reach 60 comments for your 60th.
Happy Birthday DG.

One of the weirder things about events for over-60s is that so many still seem to think we were born during the Second World War. Vera Lynn songs and the like, when in practice even the Beatles is pushing it for many of us and glam rock would be more relevant.
Happy birthday! You've made me feel a lot better disposed towards my own impending 60th (still 13 months away, but it's never too early to start worrying).
Happy Birthday DG!

Enjoy your day, and what a lovely day it is out there too!
Many happy returns DG. I’ve been spending a few days working in Croxley Green, so thought of you. Quite fitting to mark this milestone in your life 😀
Happy Birthday DG!
Still not dead. Well done!
A very Happy Diamond Birthday DG. I'm looking forward to the next forty years of daily insights. I'm kind of interested to know the age of your daily readers/commenters. Have you ever surveyed them? Yep, time for a readers survey! South London Lad aged
68 1/2.
Happy Birthday DG
Happy birthday DG. After 60 you progress into the 60-somethings, and that can be more traumatic. They throw you out of the club in 10 years time, so make the most of it, as I'm sure you will.

Happy birthday DG!

Senior rates on Interrail tickets start at 60, should you fancy a Eurogadabout.
What does your dad feel about his son being geriatric
Happy Birthday! I can recommend the Senior Community film screenings at the Barbican every other Monday morning. It's £6 and you can get a hot drink and a slice of cake for £5 before the screening. It's a very mixed programme - from the mainstream to the art house with quite a few documentaries thrown in. You have to be 60 but you can take up to three under sixties with you. I often go solo but sometimes take my son. Despite the promo film for the scheme showing lots of seniors chatting and sharing cake I have to say I have never had a conversation with any other cinema goer there. Its just a nice cheap, comfortable way to see a film.
Have a very happy birthday DG. Here’s to your 60s.
Hello! Stumbled upon your blog a few months ago and was delighted to find that we have the same birthday, which we share with Yuri Gagarin and the Barbie doll.
I myself am turning 21 and your blog has inspired me to perhaps go ride the 21 bus route in celebration :)
Happy birthday DG!
Many Happy Returns DG
Happy birthday DG!
Happy Birthday!
Mick Jagger was storming the charts in the week you were born. It certainly didn't turn out to be The Last Time because he's still going strong at 81 and planning to tour next year.

Similarly, Paul McCartney is 82 and packed them in at the O2 last December, having wowed Glastonbury in 2022.

Oldies Rule !
Many happy returns DG. Wishing you the best decade ever.
All the above und alles Gute!
Exactly what SH said.
A most moving, evocative, and thought provoking piece.
Happy Birthday. DG, and many thanks for all the pleasure reading your blog has bought me every day.
My turn in 13 days' time.

Happy Birthday DG.
A very happy birthday, indeed - Penblwydd Hapus! Tomorrow, I will officially be eight years older than you.

We need to enjoy those age-related pay-backs whilst they last. I have a feeling the fuel-payment debacle is but the beginning of an avalanche of erosions to come...
A fully and fundamentally Happy Birthday to you.
Happy Birthday!
As Timbo mentioned, 60 was once a compulsory retirement age, and I remember being somewhat taken aback at having to leave the large company I’d worked at for the previous 40 years in mid flow. But then I did have a big send off party and was cheered on my way through the front gates - to carry on working as freelance while pocketing a substantial pension. While it was a sudden and major transformation, I appreciated it more with hindsight than what happened to my many colleagues when compulsory retirement was done away with. They could stay on and leave when they wanted to, but ended up hanging around and then drifting away as and when, with little ceremony or celebration.
So for all its arbitrariness, celebrate sixty for the right of passage it is!
Happy birthday DG! And many happy returns.
Best wishes to you and thanks for all your brilliant work. It's my lovely daughters birthday today, you were celebrating your twenty first birthday on the day she arrived in the world.
Congratulations! Here's to your next sixty years!
Happy birthday dg!
Happy Birthday!
Many Happy Returns!
Happy Birthday DG! I reached the same milestone 3.5 years ago and I've found that 'YOLO' has definitely become my favourite saying whenever I'm thinking about doing something :)
Have a great birthday DG! I look forward to tomorrow's post, especially it is a description of how you celebrated.
Feliz cumpleanos DG - as an ex-Londoner (from the hinterlands of the Northern Heights) who hit 60 in foreign climes just last year. I admire your tenacity and persistence in daily blogging.
Wishing you all the very best, DG, and hoping you've got many healthy years ahead of you (partly on a selfish level, thanks to the entertainment and brain-stimulation that you bring our way).
Happy Birthday DG. Hope you're having an extra Creme Egg to celebrate
Have I really been reading your blog every day for getting on for 20 years?
Happy birthday DG! Is it possible to stick a candle in a creme egg?
Happy birthday and long may the blog continue.
Wishing you a Very Happy Birthday DG 😎
Happy birthday DG!
A very Happy Birthday to you!
Keep on blogging please.
Happy Birthday DG!
Hope you are enjoying a lovely day for your 60th. Happy Birthday.
Happy 60th birthday DG, you are now a legit 💎 geezer!
One in four chance of another 32 plus years, I like that stat, and those odds.
Many happy returns of the day. I hope you’ve been enjoying yourself. Here’s to many more healthy years and posts.
I admit coming in to the comments to see if there was a birthday greeting from DGD (your dad)🤣! But I think for such a special birthday you will get something much more memorable from him instead.

Thank you for being a significant part of my digital life for goodness knows how long.

Happy Birthday!!
Happy birthday DG! As someone who's on the way from the 50 to 60 milestone there's a slightly unsettling but also reassuring insight in this for me. Thank you for the last 20+ years of daily wisdom, grouchery, reportage, amusement, advice (explicit, implied or inferred) and being a good egg - there seem to be far fewer people like you in this world than there should be. Cheers 🥂
Happy birthday DG!
Happy birthday DG!
Sights on today's sunny spring walk:
catkins, fox, budding trees, snowdrops, village pond, cherry blossom, daffodils, nest-building, swan, butterflies (plural), heron, crocuses, red kites, celandines, bees collecting blossom, bluebell stalks, narrowboat going through lock, disused railway, chalk stream, wild swimming, topless skateboarding, rolled-up sleeves. Glorious.
A very happy milestone day to you, DG xxx
Happy birthday, DG!
(We were born not many months apart).

Prompted me to post a FoI request today about you know what.

Interested to see what comes back from quite a detailed statistical request
Congratulations on reaching 60. Many happy returns.
happy birthday dg! Hope you enjoy your trip to Old Coulsdon/Streatham.

dg writes: (finally unwrapping my Creme Egg, thanks)
Many happy returns DG!
Happy Birthday DG ... hope you've been having a great day.
Happy birthday from me too! And thanks also for your wonderful blog.
I'm just living in the reflected glory of today.
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday DG! And what a glorious day for it too.
Many happy returns, DG! Thanks for many years of brilliant blogposts to date and here’s hoping for many more to come. Wishing you good health
Happy 60th birthday DG. You weren't far off 40 when I started reading, and now... well.. I'm not far off 40 either. Eek. Many happy returns.
Happy birthday DG!
Happy Birthday Diamond Geezer! Many happy returns!

Congratulations! Happy birthday!
Happy birthday DG, many thanks for the daily entertainment.
Happy birthday!
Happy birthday, querido amigo transatlántico!
Happy special birthday DG.

You've certainly had a lovely sunny day - I hope you really enjoyed it from dawn 'til dusk.
Many happy returns DG!
Frohe Weihnachten, DG!
A very happy birthday DG, such a nice day it was today as well; I hope you enjoyed it.
Happy 60th, DG! Your post has made me realise I must’ve started reading your blog the year you turned 50. Feels neat somehow – knowing I’ve read my own 10 year anniversary with your musings around the same time as you finished a decade of your life. Makes me wonder how old your readership is? Am I (mid-30s) at the younger end, or is it spread out more than I think? How many women, men, and people of other genders regularly come to see what you’ve been up to? Anyway. Happy birthday! Hope you continue to enjoy good health and many, many more nerdy adventures.
Thanks for all of it, sparkling happy birthday DG
The happiest of birthdays to you, dg. We drank in your honor at dinner tonight.
Belated happy birthday!
Belated Happy Birthday DG!
Belated birthday wishes, DG. I hope you had a good one!

Andrew S - Yes, today's 60-plus generation would have been teenagers during the glam rock, punk rock and New Romantics era, definitely not Vera Lynn's heyday.
Belated happy birthday!
A belated happy birthday, DG. May there be many, many more. (and more blog posts, of course!)
A sign of how things change. I turn 60 in a few months, just after my son finishes his GCSE's
When my Dad turned 60, he had 2 married daughters and 2 grandkids (both under 5)
When my grandfather turned 60, his grandkids were all (late) teens or early twenties...
Happy Birthday DG, and thanks for the content
Happiest happy birthday, and thank you for all of it!
Am I the last to wish you a belated Happy Birthday???
A belated happy 60th DG!
Love the DG presence in my London life, and so grateful I spent two years living in E3 which led me to this blog :)
Happy Birthday mate and come on in the water's lovely! [66 in May]
