I viewed a flat in Burdett Road in 2001. This song was very much on my mind. Needless to say, I didn't take the flat.
I’m a Londoner who now lives in Sheffield Jarvis’ birthplace and has worked in Bow with an interest in housing, so this was fascinating
Nice one.
Maybe it's been done, but a series about London locations mentioned in songs - new, old or obscure - would be of great interest.

When my brother was a student at City of London Poly many moons ago he lived near there in what TH called a 'hard-to let'. IE - a total crap hole where you feared for your life each time you went out.
He loved it because it was only a fiver a week which was cheap even then.
Such a good blog entry - this is why I come here every day!

I’m fascinated by the late 80s/early 90s London. Wish I could have experienced it.
An splendid, ultra niche, 'then-and-now' post. Just what I love.
All I want to say is that I loved today's inspired post, though judging by the number of comments compared to yesterday, most people seem to prefer buses.
Really enjoyed this post. It's one of those songs that I find myself singing in my head - not bad for a b-side.
What a very hyper local post! I spent my time in lockdown living in the flats on Joseph Street and had no idea there was a whole Pulp song that took place in the building outside my window! You commented about what the view would have been like, and I have a picture taken from those flats that I found online from 1984. https://imgur.com/a/bV1X1W3
I wondered if my house would ever be featured! I didn't live here back in the Pulp days, but it seems to bear little resemblance nowadays... Well built, (now) well maintained, good sized rooms, amazing views - and all owned by a social landlord. Much better than a lot of modern stock in terms of size and build quality. The windows are due to be replaced soon and if they ever install some bike parking, will be pretty much perfect for me. There's a picture from the late 80s when it looks more like a mess alright - here.
Fantastic classic DG post and loving the photos in this thread.

I live a stone's throw away and while the area's still definitely a backwater it's far from the worst place on earth ;)
