Excellent stuff, although the voice selected for audio description was a bit of a shock. "..around a different corner" made me laugh out loud - well played Sir!
The etymology of Bushey is interestingly predictable. From the same root (arf!) must come ‘bosky’, a word used exclusively by Spectator readers.

I used to rather like Benskins ales, which could be bought as far afield as Cambridge in the early 1980s.
Enjoyable, and blue the skies help, it seems that in the 60s and early 70s a flyover was a must have for urban planners.

The 142 used to have that bus with the large eagle on the side - I think it was an advert for insurance, at least the current operator doesn't use single deckers on a regular basis like Arriva did in the last few years.
You didn't point out the blue plaque on the house where you lived.
I thought the One Crown was in demolition mode.
Disagree that Watford museum is a gloomy place. It's wonderful, a great community resource run by a very friendly bunch of people. They have plans to renovate, you should give it another go! (note, I'm not associated with the museum, just a happy visitor!)
A very familiar route for me - on the 142 as a teenager heading to Baileys for a night out in the 1980s, and now on the 258 which turns in from the left in first picture.

Couldn't get the sound to work, do I get a refund?
the Royal Oak is definitely not flats!

you might of been thinking of the White Horse that was slightly further down the hill past the police station.

dg writes: I was thinking of the Royal Oak... but yes, it's not flats yet. Updated thanks.
This really does seem like a lot of series.
this has all the feel of someone who has taken early retirement
I note the very advanced and seamless way all references to "yesterday", "last year" and so on automatically adjust so that they never go out of date. (I had to alter the date on my computer to test out this feature, and now all my photos are re-synching themselves unnecessarily - couldn't you have provided a test button?).
Posted at 01.42 and not 07.00 - what are you up to DG ?
I decided against 02:58
Saab?!

dg writes: Saab.
Dave, it's the One Bell by the church on Watford High St that's being demolished, or at least severely renovated. The One Crown, further down the hill, is still alive and kicking.

DG, thanks for an excellent guide to somewhere I'm pretty familiar with in passing but which I knew far too little about in depth.
I tried "click to listen" on 6 different combinations of operating systems and browsers before concluding you were just teasing us. It does change colour when clicked on android though.
...an ill-advised Debenhams? Isn't Watford ready for such sophistication?
Bushey sounded interesting enough for a visit, so I followed your example. Thanks - I enjoyed it a lot, especially the church, war memorial and rose garden. My one disappointment was that the museum was closed - it only opens from Thursday to Sunday. That’s not your fault - I should have checked before going - but I always have the illusion that you write up visits you made the day before. Clearly not...
But the last Saab was manufactured - surely and absolutely - in 2013. (A.Pedant)

The description of St James' church should include the reference to the mystery WW1 rifle recently discovered in the tower.
Ah memories... I used to hurtle down these hills from the Bushey Heath Alpine to Watford every evening. Pedalling my bike up in the morning was quite a different exercise!
