I went to longyearbyen in Spitsbergen in November a few years ago where it was pure darkness for 24 hours a day. Just as strange going out for lunch in the dark. Of cause in the summer it's pure light for 24 hours a day.

"I'm a sucker for diurnal peculiarity"
The underestimate of the year...

Cool pics. I love Iceland - been a couple of times.

Thanks for the blog updates.

Sounds a beautiful country, I have been to Sweden, but not with views like that. London will be a little odd on your return for the first day I'm sure

This has made me want to visit Iceland even more.

Glad you had a good holiday, and are now safetly home.
Althought Iceland's volcanic areas would interest me I doubt I shall ever go there as I always head South for my holidays as I prefer warmer climates,
and go away to escape UK winter.

I'm a sucker for Dirndl Pecularity.

But I'm sure you already guessed that.

Really interesting to read about Iceland from such a personal point of view. Someone I know went to Spitsbergen at midsummer and said the sun didn't set at all, but just went round the horizen all day and night. I wonder if people in Iceland see the south of Britain as a rather exotic southern place!
