Well I for one am very glad you’re still here DG. I really enjoy my daily dose of Diamond Geezer. Thank you.
Hear hear! Agree with Terry, above.

Thank you DG. All your hard work is much appreciated.
Thanks, but I’d rather hear about other blogs and other bloggers, thanks.
I have thought often, and more frequently in recent days, about terminating my blog. (It is one of your 51 but didn't quite make it into your 30 -- since lockdown I have been busier than ever and the blog is one thing that has not had my full attention.) My experience is similar to yours: they change things so that what worked before no longer does (once I had to spend quite a long time going through old posts making changes). In my case, it is actually some of the older posts that get the traffic, not the most recent ones. But mathematics is like that; what Euclid said is still current.

Anyway, you are one of my first ports of call in the morning, so I am very happy that you are continuing.
I don't understand the fascination with facebook and twitter (not being a self-publicist) and much prefer a good read accompanied by interesting photos. Your blog is on my list of ones to visit first thing (along with Dilbert, NO, The Slog, Grandad, ZH.....), which give a much better world view than any of the MSM
Please keep it up, you are much appreciated
Like Peter above, I just scrape into the 51 blogs updated this year. But only because I thought I would blog about Lockdown, and then spectacularly failed (only 2 posts since March). And those were my first posts in 3 years!

Who would have thought that being stuck in the house for weeks on end with the same people would mean there isn't much to write about... Bravo to DG and anyone else who manages it!
Still going, still with a blogroll! Just renamed :)

dg writes: Missed the blogroll at the foot of the page, sorry. Now added :)
Your blog is on my list. A former blogger who now lives in Australia but lived in London for many years was a reader of yours. If you mention Hackney or Hackney Wick, I send her the link. We bloggers are now a very exclusive community.

I do read a couple more blogs - well, check in as I mostly ignore the content if the headline hasn't grabbed me - there are only so many things you can write about when a blog is on a certain theme, so it all gets very repetitive.

Which is what keeps me coming back to yours each day - you never know what you'll get!
As you note, the problem with blogging is that it does seem to take an awful amount of effort since readers want a frequent flow of content. So the blogs which now seem to be best are those of particular institutions which can leverage on a large group of people to keep the content flowing - so, for example, the Bank of England’s “Bank Underground”.

I used to read an awful lot of blogs but because so many now only put content up every few months, you literally end up forgetting about them and end up just concentrating on those which do provide regular entertaining and interesting content flow. I know that is difficult but you are one of the very few individual blogs which still works and that keeps me hooked.

As for social media, many of the bloggers I used to follow are now regularly on Twitter. But I have never been a fan of soundbites and like reading prose, especially insightful and new writing. The challenge for blogs is coming up with new content, I know that is hard, but if done successfully, it is a very attractive proposition. So there will always be a place for your blog even though I know it is hard work!!
Interesting & useful list. However you're missing my Zen Mischief site & blog. :-(

I took most of July off, but I posted on July 4th, and have you on my blogroll! (I have no idea why a post from June is showing at the top or how to get rid of it…)
It used to be easy to discover which blogs linked to you... there were entire websites devoted to it.

With such visibility gone, it's nigh impossible to spot you're on someone's blogroll unless they point it out.
I had a blog from 2003 and it then finally petered out about four years ago. I started at a time when blogging was all the rage in political circles and that was my main interest then (although I did have a blogroll for a time which included DG).

I often toy with restarting a blog as whilst I do like Twitter some of what I want to write doesn't fit the format. Now my blog content would be more akin to this one but what puts me off is that I know I would spend too long finessing a post which I then never post as I still don't think it's good enough. I've also think my skin has got thinner over the years and I would find it difficult dealing with the negativity and criticism should anyone bother to read what I had written.
It's a bit like reading a newspaper. If you did you still do but if you never have you never will.
just added your RSS feed to my blogroll

not that i post very often though !
I was really glad to find that in spite of the present situation there have been some recent posts from The Ladies Who Bus
Thanks for inspiring / reminding me to expand my blog reading list DG. I appreciate the effort that went into this.

The trend toward soundbites, pictures and video does cause me some concern. It makes me wonder what might be lost, should we (as a society) keep heading down this path, at the expense of the written word.
I feel terrible now about what I think must be my longest ever fallow period since I started blogging in 2006 - I've missed the cut for currency and only make it into 'almost current'. This time it has largely been the consequence of my Covid-related almost total avoidance of media, including social media ... though obviously I have started to sneak back, but given that I am largely avoiding real life as well I don't have much to write about. But I was going to do a post tonight, honest! About my rubber plant reaching the ceiling.
Had my 5th blogging birthday this month. Didn’t think I’d do it for so long.
>>Most blogs no longer have sidebars listing other blogs, indeed most bloggers have given up blogging altogether...

Sorry DG but that's utter rubbish. For a starter you can't possibly claim this unless you've checked "most" of the ten of thousands of blogs out there. Have you?

There is a high rate of failed blogs I suspect because some people start blogging but lose their initial enthusiasm once they realise the work involved.

However, there are plenty of active blogs. I follow about 30-40ish blogs on a variety of subjects and they're all blogging away with links to other blogs in the sidebars.

Shall I rewrite your statement for you into something more accurate - "Some blogs no longer have sidebars listing other blogs, indeed some bloggers have given up blogging altogether...
Based on my analysis of 142 blogs, most of those which have updated their template since 2010 no longer have a blogroll and most of those which haven't do.
I rarely look sideways to other blogs and, when I do, I am often rather disappointed. I find your posts satisfy my need for meaty and/or humorous good-quality text for the day. This has been enough for me for many years.

I don’t twitter but I use Facebook to keep in touch with family and ex-colleagues worldwide, a quite different use.

Glad you are in continuum.
