30: <insert boring rant about how crap appliances are these days>
A super value post today.

25. Enough content here to have been worth a full article. And about trains! With bonus features of topical concern about fear of overcrowding. My one public transport day since lockdown was similar in that respect.
2, 19 & 30 - is it more crap than it used to be, being TV repairman was a job in the old days, and we do own much more technology than we used to (assuming organ was dumped because it didn't work).

12 - unhappy about the mix of right angled and curved lines in the paving, either have all curves or all right angles.

24 - must be really hard to launder money nowadays (just a random thought about cash rather than a comment on the pub), the company where my brother works has now abolished petty cash - so no ice creams during the recent hot weather due to paperwork.
19. The last shot is very "the United Kingdom, 2020".
24. No it's not. That's what bookies are for.
2. Can recommend a Fire TV stick to get your TV smart again. If you don’t want an Alexa though you’ll need to buy and older version second hand.
25. I kept telling you the trains were deserted, I have loads of photos of empty carriages as well. That trip was quite a lot to do in one day, amazed how you manage it.
22. Leaving aside for one moment the tautology of "Most Unique" an experience can still be uniquely awful, to which the faces of the partygoers would seem to bear witness.
3. Because I an fortunate enough to be able to (and I recognise many are not at the moment) I have continued with English Heritage and other memberships and subscriptions to help the organisations I support to stay afloat.

I am sure this will turn out to be a waste of money when they all go bust...
30: perhaps the child lock is on.
28. Maybe I'll stroll along and check.
29: Read "Signs of autumn" as "Signs of autism". Just off to the opticians now.
14: Who uses Tippex these days? Surprised it is still available in supermarkets. My local one doesn't even sell lard due to 'insufficient demand'.
30 - Worth checking that the timer (if fitted) is not set to AUTO instead of MAN 😉
25. My LNER day out was on 20th which had better weather. On the outward Peterborough-Kings Cross train my allocated seat was in a bay of 4 opposite another passenger, so in the interests of social distancing I moved into the empty bay across the gangway; the "revenue team member" who checked the tickets did not comment. On the return train I was again allocated a seat in a bay of 4, with the opposite bay occupied by a noisy family from Doncaster: the mother said 5 or 6 times that as the reservation lights were not on, the seat reservations didn't matter and so they could sit where they liked.

Impressions of unlocked-down London:
a) lots of buses displaying BUS FULL but few were (notably on 174 between Gidea Park and Romford);
b) the phonebox/ATM outside Thames Magistrates Court which used to dispense new £5 notes now charges for the privilege (so no more for the grandchildren);
c) traffic congestion on Eastern Avenue outbound before 3pm;
d) serious congestion at 4pm on East India Dock Road westbound approaching Blackwall Tunnel;
e) Kings Cross male toilets were closed so potential users had to troop across to St Pancras - most annoying.

17 - why is it provocative? i don't understand
2. You must gird your loins and do the decent thing and have it put down humanely. It's best for both of you.
2. Another recommendation for the Fire TV Stick. The smart TV has to be one of the biggest cons,
19. I notice the toilet cistern has now fallen out with the bowl and is making a break for freedom in Stephenson Street. Perhaps it'll shack up with that impressive organ that's just moved in.
27 - I see you and John Rodgers giving each other a shoutout. He mentioned you a lot in yesterdays video around Loxford and Seven Kings.
25: Transport seems very hit and miss to me at the moment. I thought a Saturday would be fine - and it was on the outward journey, but returning was a different matter.
At Finchley Road the Jubilee line trains always disgorge passengers faster than the Met line can soak up, but I arrived at 3pm onto a packed platform with a 3 minute wait. The next train was a further 10 min wait and the one after that 25 mins! So when it came it was already packed - complete with a maskless family of feral children swinging from the handrails by the doors and climbing the walls between carriages!
It was only my 2nd tube journey since lockdown - both at a weekend and by far the worst. It was just like a pre-lockdown journey, but with more face coverings - not all of which were actually covering any faces!
2. Phew - thank goodness I still have my 2003 telly bought from Tesco (now with added Digi-box).... still going strong!
4. The difference in library opening policies between boroughs is massive. Westminster and Kensington&Chelsea seem to be operating almost normally.

I haven't looked across London but I suspect there's a correlation between Tory councils opening them, and Labour councils keeping them closed or nearly closed.
30th: Immediate call to landlord to get oven fixed/replaced.
27 Another vote for John Rogers.
16 - A much better reaction than the time I failed to stay calm when walking past Jarvis Cocker. My only defence is that my sister was even more excited.

31 - Is it wrong that my initial reaction was to think that a banana milkshake would be really nice right now.
8: London becomes more like Hong Kong in terms of climate? Probably a tough call -- I heard that Brits had a rather hard time adjusting themselves to tropical or sub-tropical weather in the early colonial days.
31 Ah... I saw a large posse of young lads with bikes at that McDonald's this morning and did wonder what was going on
31. We saw hundreds of boys riding along Horse Guards Road this afternoon. Twitter tells me that it's to protest against knife crime: Bikestormz.
19 - cue Penguin Cafe Orchestra's 'Music for a Found Harmonium'

16 - I have walked calmly past Jarvis Cocker twice (once on Division Street and once at the railway station). I have never heard of the person dg smiled at.
4-My local library is now open only for the collection of reservations but the library books I borrowed before lockdown are now due back 1st October. Instead of browsing the shelves at the library you now reserve your books online.
8. I miss it and can’t imagine I will.

9. I agree. That’s algorithms for you.

10. I had the privilege couple of years ago of having a scaffolding tour of the 14th century 'gallery of the kings’ statues on Lincoln Cathedral’s west screen. Seeing them eye to eye was something else.

13. Well, there is arguably something to be said for being Happy and Proud the rest of the year too...

26/31. Better late than never: I Ate Out today for the first and last time
Days which have not inspired comment:
1 5 6 7 11 15 18 20 21 23

(but the majority have, cheers!)

It’s 14: easy solution, take a trolley and keep it behind you at the checkout to stop the next person nudging up, Tippex or not!
2 - Personally, I prefer the Roku stick to the Amazon stick (and I'm a Prime subscriber!), but you can't really go wrong with either. A £20-30 device to provide what the £500 telly no longer does.

Or you can get a Chromecast for similar dosh and manage your viewing via apps on the phone. That boils down to whether you prefer a remote and a big screen or swiping on a small one for choosing what to watch.
2 - Now Tv sticks are dumbed down version of Roku sticks / boxes. Can be got for next to nothing. Now includes Netflix but not Prime. All apps like iPlayer work even if don't have a Now subscription.
2. We've had this conversation and solved the problem, thanks.
19. I was slightly concerned about the organ until I saw the picture and realised the organ is/was musical, not biological.
28. The map at the bus stop on Woolwich High Street is dated 23 July 2010 - spot on!
Re 30: On holiday I turned on the oven, light on, fan whirring and it stayed cold. Realised on looking at manual the fan icon meant fan, the fan in a circle out of sight beneath the dial meant fan with heating. (But you’ve had yours 9 months so it can’t be icon confusion)
