M25, Harrow? Where's that then?

dg writes: Oops, wrong motorway. Deleted, thanks.
And, in the days of Metropolitan Boroughs (and the parishes which preceded them) Parrs Ditch marked the boundary between Hammersmith and Fulham.
Can I add the River Brent as a lost river between LBs Brent and Barnet under the Welsh Harp?

dg writes: Added, unlost, thanks.
Pool River in the south?

dg writes: Not a boundary (although the Beck is).
Nice, helpful list - didn't realise any boundaries followed the M25!

I thought Richmond was the only borough on both sides of the Thames?
River Rom, which becomes the Beam at the confluence with the Ravensbourne.

dg writes: Agreed, and added, thanks.
M25 used as a boundary, begs the question; where exactly is the boundary on the motorway? Down the middle? alongside a fence?
@Peter it does straddle both sides of the Thames in the west, but in the east the Thames marks the boundary, such as between Barnes and Hammersmith
Heathbrook. Lambeth/Wandsworth. Remembered in the name of a local school and park.

dg writes: I've been looking at some old maps, but I can't can't see the route of this stream.
I think it's the Deptford Creek, which the Ravensbourne river becomes which marks the Lewisham Greenwich boundary in Deptford.

Also I think the Quaggy reference to Croydon is incorrect as it flows through Lewisham and Greenwich, but I don't think it marks a borough boundary.

dg writes: Hopefully fixed, thanks.
Oh well, the Pool River used to be a boundary between Kent and Surrey, when Penge was part of NE Surrey.
Have to assume that borough boundaries have been amended to match route of M25, rather than motorway route being decided by existing borough boundary line?
Sorry DG but am a bit confused.

Do you mean that the M25 forms a boundary for the three boroughs listed, and this has nothing to do with rivers.

If so, would a new heading be needed here, and the first one rivers/waterways?
You have the Effra as marking part of the boundary of Lambeth and Lewisham. Shouldn’t that be Lambeth and Southwark? I don't think Lambeth and Lewisham have a common boundary anywhere.

dg writes: Agreed, and fixed, thanks.
Toby/DG - It's a common fallacy that Deptford Creek represents the boundary between Greenwich and Lewisham. It doesn't.

Perhaps this is best explained by a previous blog on 853 (if you don't mind DG).

dg writes: From Deptford Bridge to the Laban centre, the boundary does follow Deptford Creek. North of that, no it doesn't.
@Mike: in all three cases where the M25 forms the boundary, the boundary line follows the fence next to the clockwise carriageway, putting the whole motorway at those points inside Greater London.

Boundaries that follow roads will generally be at one edge of the road rather than down the middle, so that the entire roadway will be owned and maintained by one local authority (although that's a moot point in this case as the M25 is maintained by Highways England).

@Island Dweller: the adjustment of boundaries to follow the M25 is a more recent development (1994 I think?), to eliminate small and awkward parcels of land cut off from the rest of their borough by the motorway.
