Now, if only the corporate 'architects' of all those ugly square 1960s-time-warp towers springing up in Bow (and everywhere else) could take a trip here and learn what settlements are supposed to look like...

Again a fantastic post DG, a part of England that I dearly remember. I had an uncle who live on Parker Close which is just off Spring road.

I couldn't agree more DG. Letchworth is a fabulous place and its enduring appeal is a testament to Howard's vision. No-one has bettered it since.

Of course, you must not forget Howard's second Garden City. Welwyn Garden City is also a fantastic place to take a look around.

In 1910 the Sollershot Roundabout was tested. Vehicles were brought from London and nearby places to go round and round. My father, Eric Pearson aged ten, who lived at Spinney Nook, at the corner of Spring Road and Broadway was also recruited to join with his bicycle - and was enjoying himself immensely when his parents took fright and forbade him to do any more circuits!

I've just come across this blog and what a coincidence. I grew up in Letchworth but now, like you, live in the great conurbation that is London E3.

The school I was at was right by that roundabout (on Spring Road and Broadway). It is a beautiful town although as a teenager I found it intensely unexciting. On the rare occasions I go back I love visiting the Broadway cinema - original Art Deco cinema, now converted (quite well) into a 3 screen multiplex.

PS From memory I think there was at least one other set of traffic lights in the town where the A505 crosses over Norton Way South.

You spelt the word "yesterday" wrong, after which I immediately stopped reading.

As "yetserday" is the opening word of the blog post, goodness knows what I might have missed.

DG rarely spells anything wrong, but he does make the occasional typo. Most readers can cope with this.
Perhaps The Count could tell us how many words DG has typed so far this year?

I'd like to alopogise to M for accidetnally spelling a word wrong. Atfer all, I'm olny human. Alas, I fear M won't have read my frist setnence to the end, so this alopogy is piontless.

Quiet rihgt DG. Another great post. It's his/her loss.

A town not drowning in alcohol and drunken violent gits. Lovely.
