Cola bottle? Cola bottle??!!
Wtf? |
I predict Dr Watson, with a high degree of confidence, that the Prius owner was not the Prius driver on the night in question.

Don't forget the bus that ended up in Clapton Pond in the 1970s (1973?).
Daffodils - is it flowers per plant or per bulb, did they plant clusters of bulbs. |
WHSmiths at Victoria station the other week were absolutely selling Cherry Jaffa Cakes, because I thought “that’s unusual” and took a picture. ( But didn’t buy any )

MWLB here : Metro-Scania bus MS4 entered Clapton Pond on its first day in service on route S2 - 13 August 1973.

For my wife's birthday this weekend she will be getting one daffodil head per year. This will be a nice surprises as I failed to pick up her cues a few years ago and she's given up now (ah well).
My local store sells nine for a £1 (conveniently her age will be a direct multiple of that), and will be checking on some other stores today (I have to pick up another present, click and collect). |
The small prolific daffodils are invariably 'Tete a tete' which I read somewhere was called this because when first bred, there were two flowers per stem. This feature seems to have disappeared, in the main, but you might find a few double-headers in a big planting.

Aldi sells cherry-flavoured Jaffa cakes. Apparently, they are much sought after. I have no desire to try them.

As for the submerged car. Your reporting is completely balanced unlike other media and social click bait. It just goes to show that while the media will always be outraged by the very rare death by a cyclist, incidents involving cars are par for the course. The viral video of teenagers throwing cushions from the upper balcony of Westfield Stratford drew outrage with plenty of commentators imagining how much worse it would have been had people been hit. Yet despite the number of pedestrians killed every year by drivers the hypothesising about how many pedestrians could have been killed by this driver were noticeably absent. See also last night’s ITV news at 10 and a report of an “accident” in which a young child was killed by a driver on a rugby field.

Motonormativy in action, Auntie Susan.

That photo of the car in the pond is a work of art. It just needs a few politicians, minor celebrities and other notorieties and it could be a Cold War Steve composition
|
It's also worth saying that "Jaffa Cakes" isn't trademarked, so anyone could make cherry flavoured Jaffa cakes!

Real Hackney Dave is a top bloke! Does some great artwork and is a proper inspiration. Collaborates with the folk at Inky Fingers. I mainly stalk him on Instagram as that's a legal safe distance:D

Not a fan of The Arch Company. They appear to fleece the Railway Heritage Trust (what in earth are they thinking?) for cash to do up their properties and then make our like bandits when they rent them to tenants. Press releases are issued, "We couldn't have done it without them,c." but I'm not sold.

Only ever drunk the contents, so not sure what a cola bottle might taste like, but I love the lime ones.

Observations from my visit to Lyle Park today (08.03.25):
- The park is busier than I’ve ever seen it, must be at least 20 people when I was there. Many walking dogs. - It’s now open 24 hours as there are no gates on the new entrances. It’s not clear if the main entrance is still locked at night, there’s still a sign giving opening hours. - The steps in the middle of the park are fenced off and look like they have been for some time. - There’s a Supershakes kiosk selling refreshments adjacent to the new entrance on the river front. They seemed to be doing reasonable business. - No football matches appear to have taken place recently, there’s no pitch marked out, or goal posts. The changing rooms are secured and look as though they’ve not been used in a long time - You can now walk along the river front from Lyle Park to Barrier Park. Barrier Park does get closed at night. - Many of the benches have ‘Lyle Park’ cast into their frame. I’d not noticed this before. - A new children’s pay area has been built adjacent to, but outside Lyle Park (presumably built by the Royal Wharf developers). It was very busy with children enjoying the warm weather. - Lyle Park’s own children’s play equipment was much quieter by comparison. - The water fountain on the war memorial is not working - I walked through the Royal Wharf development, blimey there’s a lot of flats. The houses on Bradfield Road look somewhat out of place! |
