I had thought I was doing well in Sainsburys last Thursday when single Creme Eggs were 50p.
Thinking about the Tolworth bench, the Salter statues by the Thames in Bermondsey, and other such memorials around the country - how many of our recent or current councillors will achieve something of local significance to be considered worthy of such commemoration after the end of their days? The powers of councils and their ability to make a difference in their communities have been eroded so much over the years.
"Thank goodness society's moved on since then".

I suggest that Mrs Reynolds wouldn't ever be remembered if hubby hadn't become a worthy JP and councillor. At least she is name-checked.

Not a problem, in my mind.
Thanks for the arcade. The Quadrant Arcade in Romford has greatly declined since 1950s, pie shop moved out recently. Architecturally almost striking at both ends.

Tesco in Woolwich seems to have overstocked as well.
Anyone in retail know if this is a head office thing or if the ordering is determined centrally?
Turkey Street - not only are they children, but children with challenges, which means adults can use them to boost their credentials and further their careers.

Tolworth - I regard the husband & wife plaques as a nice gesture 'from those in charge' to a loving couple, but then along comes DG armed with his Guardian and TV licence and sees only injustice, even though they had children, he twists the knife by adding (by that time sharing nothing).

Being a conscientious objector during WW1 wasn't something you did on a whim.

Tesco - a media story happening in real life, was it overstocking or has there been a backlash against Creme Eggs - I recall a lack of chocolate eggs generally in my local supermarket this year, something about high cocoa prices.
I read "bad at love and good at creating" as "bad at love and good at cheating", and in all honesty I think my misreading works better.
Thankful that none of those arcades is described as a maul.
I got annoyed with myself for thinking £2 was a reasonable reduced price… should have waited another few days when everywhere had them for half that!
Stratford Market Village is fascinating. There are around 60 shop units selling a wide range of goods and including some catering establishments.
South Harrow Market?

I suspect Mrs Alice Reynolds must either have been a devoted supporter of her husband or had worked tirelessly on her own (unlisted) achievements to also warrant a plaque.
Most wives of that era would have otherwise been included as an afterthought on their husband's plaque or not at all!

Overstocking, or misjudging the willingness of consumers to pay the ever-increasing prices?
I stopped paying the rip-off prices for Easter Eggs long ago. Same with Advent Calanders.
I think 20p was about the price when I last bought a Creme Egg, but that would have been at the end of the 70s.

We have had a similar thing here in Germany, but with Chococalte Hares in foil, gold or lila. Its is all down to the german consumer finally working out, at least in this case, that they are being ripped off. The four big supermarkets are still desperately trying to unload their stock at about a third of the original asking price. I only wished consumers would be as clever when it came to motor fuels.

Hats off to Mrs. Reynolds. Getting any sort of plaque as the "wife of someone important" indicates to me she must have been a formidable person. I prefer the olympian perpective. Its all about being there.
Without more research we don’t know if Mr and Mrs Reynolds’s plaques were installed simultaneously or if hers was an afterthought (did somebody say “what about Alice?” after her death?). The typefaces are almost the same on both inscriptions and the plaques appear to have empty screw holes, suggesting they might have been relocated, maybe from a previous bench or two that have decayed over the decades. Perhaps if the plaques were mounted vertically — on a wall, for instance — they’d seem more cohesive, but the absence of Mrs Reynolds’s dates still looks dismissive and might indicate a poor attempt to put right a perceived wrong.
At least Alice isn't "Mrs H G Reynolds".
I'm wondering in what sense the herbs in Peckham were "dubious". Would the same herbs have been equally dubious in Pimlico?
South Harrow market.
I spent many a teenage hour fingering through the LP records in the market back in the early 80's. I still have the awful smell from the adjacent pet supplies stall in my memory. There was also a good army surplus stall in there, very good for moleskin combat trousers I remember.
Having worked in retail for almost 40 years Creme Egg and Mini Egg sales are normally pretty easy to predict, you sell less if Easter is early but that would be accounted for in the sales forecasts.

The difference this year is the price. There's been massive inflation in chocolate prices and increased price points have put many people off. If you think Tesco have lots left then go and visit a WH Smith branch.
Frank - I assume it's these which I would describe as dubious in any context.
I don't regard organic or herbal - or simply not recognisable from Holland & Barratt - to be dubious at face value.
