Surpised you've never been to/blogged about the Devil's Chimney near Cheltenham - a very DG place to visit I would've thought..
A handful of the places in your yellow zones are even in your "Day Out Matrix" - such as Swindon and (maybe) Peterborough. Both of those would be great DG towns too - much maligned but with some actual beauty and things to do when you look deeper.
I live inside one of these yellow exclusion zones, but near the edge, such that all the interesting places near here are places you've already visited.

Nottingham is definitely worth an exploration though.
if you ever venture over to Ireland ... there's a handy Rail-Sail fare that you could use in order to keep your carbon footprint down. Seat61 has all the details.
I'd guess the yellow areas at least vaguely reflect areas that it's difficult/expensive to do in a day trip from London. The south Midlands would probably be the easiest to rectify on that basis.
I can recommend a trip along the "slow line" from Birmingham to Pwllheli.

That would fill a big gap on your map!
I appreciate this is mainly about distant stuff, but there's quite a lot of Kent and Sussex left to explore as easy day trips too.
Cornwall! You're missing a treat there. I can heartily recommend June as being one of the best months to visit.
Nottinghamshire, lots of potential. I'm biased but have a look at Ruddington. It will tick several of your boxes.
The area you refer to as South Midlands would prefer to be known as The Cotswolds. BBC TV are particularly confused: Cheltenham is in the Bristol editorial region but only receives broadcasts from Birmingham in a weird accent concerning unheard of places such as Leicester and Nottingham. I need to phone my mother in Cheltenham from Somerset to tell her what her local MP is saying.
