13. Ah, so that food court is new. We tried to eat there last week but failed when we discovered the enormous queue even to get inside.

Naturally, we gave up and went to Nando’s instead.
2. I suspect few foreign tourists would know the connotations of "a hotel on Park Lane".

Even countries of the old empire had their own Monopoly sets by the 1980s.
6. I'm glad that went unblogged.
10. Blogger can do that? *has a small panic attack*
13. That fails to meet the provisions of The Equality Act 2010. I wonder how they are making reasonable adjustments for those who are physically unable to use a smartphone (or indeed don't have one)?
3) I think Manchester United fans get similarly wound up if you refer to their team as Man U.
11 - I guess that's a good assumption to make for now ... at least until the "flies and strong smell" stage ...
17: I am almost two decades younger but I already have this melancholy. Being single doesn't really pay, I guess.
27. We also found some of the clues in the Bank Holiday special crossword rather challenging. We only finally completed it on Wednesday, and even then did not agree on the number of theme words as stated in the rubric.
18. Was nevertheless useful as it was the first I knew of the project that promises to clog up the Kingston one-way system for the next year.
Need I say that publicity at the old bus station site about where to now find your bus is completely absent (the nearest being a spider map in the railway station which is eight years out of date) and if you do find the temporary stops, the route tiles are incorrect.
31 blue supermoon is something you'd write in a almanac. Don't view it as merely meaningless guff designed to say something unnecessary to fill pages, but as traditional meaningless guff designed to say something unnecessary to fill pages.
13 Is eating in a food hall the latest novelty "in thing"? One opened recently in Blackpool and seems to have similar ordering arrangements. I shall not be eating in them, much prefer a typical cafe/restaurant

5 I agree the BBC are wrong in cutting down local radio services
13: I’m one one them, had not realised that I was a target of such a campaign.
18 I got to 18 and then had to choose; carry on with DG or go straight to ianVisits.
29. Congratulations!
17. I hear you - I have to keep reminding myself I'm in my sixties despite my belief I'm still in my twenties and so likely to be thought a lecherous old goat rather than a gorgeous stranger.

This days I take the rare unsolicited smile directed at me as a big bonus...
8 - I always look for the light anyway, as there's sometimes so much surrounding noise it's not always possible to hear the beep.
22 It is not always possible to site a Dolly Stop because of local obstructions, driveways, junctions etc.
22. Agreed that a dolly stop is not always possible and that may be the case here. But I also agree with the sticker author that all too often no effort seems to have been put in to alleviate things for customers with walking difficulties. And that poor spelling skills should not prevent someone from expressing themselves.
21: These sunflowers are very impressive. But social media tells me that a local photographer has upset the farmer by running paid-for sunflower photography sessions without the farmer's permission and the participants have trampled down many sunflowers in the process.
9. I once spent an incredibly depressing hour in that pub, killing time before a midnight showing of Pulp Fiction at Lakeside. The only time I've ever been to Aveley, a truly grim place back then. I wonder if it's improved in the last 30 years.
9. Sounds very much like Thurrock to me. The Circus Tavern, just down the road (in what we are now supposed to call Purfleet-on-Thames) was very much "Men and Motors" territory, at least when Jim Davidson or the darts weren't on stage
30 I would call it "excellent" rather than "poor". It's been really nice to have a summer that I haven't had to endure. I would concur with any malaise about the amount of rain, however, but would still opt for that over heat if there was any choice.
18. There is regular bus news in a google group called LondonsTransport every Friday. Though it is currently suspended for an unknown reason.
22: If You Start Every Word With A Capital Letter It Makes Your Message Very Tiring To Read.
30. Looking at the NW3 weather station stats, what really strikes me about the last 2 months is the lack of REALLY heavy rain, where you get a month of rain in a torrential storm. There's instead been a depressing number of showers or drizzly days, more akin to April.

dg writes: In all the time the NW3 weather station has been operational there's never been a day when a month's worth of rain fell.
29 Congratulations on getting another million visitors and a suitable time to say thanks for all of your posts.
I hope 2. gets a blog post when it opens.

13. Most annoying thing with QR code ordering is that you get half the service for the same service charge. Funny thing -- in Hong Kong, the staff often come up to your table anyway to confirm your QR code order. So much for that!

22. TfL have unfortunately been very reluctant to deploy temporary dolly stops nowadays.
15. Sorry, felt bad for you as you had done all that and even after 09:30 there were no comments.
13. Shelter Hall in Brighton is the ultimate food hall experience. Highly recommend! Also, I’d rather the burden of ordering/paying be put on the customer than wait 10 minutes to wait to pay my bill.
2 There was already confusion around the Park Lane name, because the Park Lane Hotel was in Piccadilly, not Park Lane. However it's now changed its name to the Sheraton Grand, leaving the opportunity open for the Stratford Park Lane.
10. I think I would save a copy of the text at least, before publishing just in case!

11. I wish my neighbours would move out - but unfortunately they only moved in 1 month ago!

12. That was nice of them

13. Food courts are handy when you are with a group that all want to eat a different kind of food from each other - but bu99er that! I've only just figured out how to use the McDonalds machines!

31. Agreed.

1. Bonus un-blogged day!
13. There's now three food courts within a 15 min walk of where I live, and plans for at least 3 more. I like having the choice of food, but QR code ordering seems to be the norm. Worse is those that do app only and so even if you never intend going again you have to download an app to buy something.

16. I've never seen despite remembering it first coming out. Have now added it on iPlayer

17. It may be a fake quote (and I can't remember who said it) but 'Getting older doesn't mean you are no longer attracted to young people, it just means young people are no longer attracted to you'. I also sighed wistfully when I read it.

30. As I've got older I've appreciated warm weather more so after the Covid summers I'd hoped for another really nice one. I'm still surprised June was so good as I don't remember it being that consistently warm, especially at night.
22. I don't ReAd PLaintive NotEs that misuse capital letters, even in London.
3: I was convinced you'd done that on purpose at the time and I have to say I'm still not 100% sure.

I have a friend with little to no interest in football. When a group of us started talking about Man City and the new owners he assumed we were talking about the takeover of a gay nightclub.

dg writes: you can be 100% sure.
19. 30.
I walked the whole capital ring this month but never did any Saturdays.
So it was nice to do this in mildly warm and dry conditions
8) I always assumed that reader had been muted at the behest of the residents with a window right next to it
1/9 Hope you have a great time with your aunties tomorrow. I'm relaxed - delighted, even - about your use of the blog for such a purpose, but shocked that you included a September post in the August anthology. Perhaps you are testing our tolerances.
3: I admit I did feel quite ashamed that I read a really terrific post about Nottingham and my first reaction was “omg he said Notts Forest”. It is quite ironic that the team that represents the county (Notts County) play in the city, and the team that represent the city and play at the City Ground (Nottingham Forest) are actually located outside the city.
13 When I was at Battersea PS the other week I ate in no 29 Power Station West outside (damned expensive). The food court looked not very busy and I was not aware you had to do it via an awful app, they won't be getting my custom.

31 I had to look up what a blue moon was. Some of my friends were determined to get up at 2.54 am (or what ever time the actual full moon was) as they might not be around for the next one. I hope they were disappointed with just a big yellow thing to stare at.
30. Having spent most of August in Athens rather than my usual East Midlands I can say that I - without a shred of doubt - would prefer most summer days to be 27C or below.
#30. Not sure if this will make you feel better or worse about your summer weather. Where I live the number of summer days exceeding 27c: 27 in June (3>32); 31 in July (14>32); and 28 in August (7>32).

Adding to the fun, more than 90% of those days also had dew points exceeding 21c, so the majority of the time it has been horrifically humid with real feel temps exceeding 35. When one is outside, it is like trying to breathe through a hot, wet washcloth.

Sadly, temps expected to continue to exceed 32 for the next few weeks, if not all of September. A different kind of poor than yours. :(
5. I am relieved that Richard's (self-proclaimed) "fat curmudgeon-like face" continues to broadcast his usually excellent show.

17. Yes, a daily cause of morose thoughts.
30) THAT'S POOR? Tell me "that's poor" when we get 35°C+ temperatures like last year. I hope I'm missing some context because that's an absolutely atrocious statement.
25. Either a photo or a quote attributed to #diamondgeezer accompanied the ITV London News feature about the naming of the Overground lines. Sorry I can't be more precise.

dg writes: It was a photo, as you can watch here.
Days which have not inspired comment:
1 4 7 14 20 23 24 26 28

(but the majority have, cheers!)

28 - if you were in Brighton so bright and early, perhaps what you saw was the terrifying "Walk i360" attraction where visitors alight upwards from the i360 donut and walk around on its roof. My absolute worst nightmare - but maybe something for your next visit
26 When I heard about the fire I immediately wondered if you were OK. Scary that it was so close to you and you didn't realise.

dg writes: far enough away that I never even shuddered.
28. It's possible that I ran past you along the seafront that morning, as my morning outlet took me from the A2023 to the other side of Brighton Marina and back.
