They also never annouce that you can claim back your fare for your tube/ extra bus journey as well although they sometime say thats not part of the terms and conditions. I say why should i pay extra for something out of my control.

The weird thing with Plaistow stn, there is never anyone there, barriers left open, the amount of people that dont tap in. You have a in station newsagent whos there and a little coffee shop

I once was waiting for a friend beyond the barriers as i didnt want to leave and be re charged (although this didnt matter with the barriers open). People kept asking if i was a police office or ticket staff.
Something to bear in mind when the Tories are berating unions for refusing to accept further staff cuts.
You could walk down the hill and catch the 325 if you wanted to go to East Ham. But as that's a single decker bus, it probably wouldn't have been too much help with the large amount of passengers.
See it.
Say it.
Sorted.
You'd need to know the 325 existed (and where), then walk 5 minutes to the nearest stop, then (at that time of the evening) wait an average of 10 minutes for a bus, then sit aboard for 20 minutes while it twiddled round the backstreets, and it'd be quicker to walk.
The free Citymapper app with its “Get me Home” button is useful in situations when you get stuck.

Other apps may also have the same functionality
There was no difference when they had staff - they would shut the ticket Office and hide, because who wants to deal with 100s of angry customers?

On the odd occasion when a member of staff did hang around, they didn't know anything and didn't have access to info on alternative routes, so all they could do we apologise and offer generic info.

Handling disruptions is something our railways are particularly bad at - they concentrate on trying to fix the issue not helping people.
On the subject of misleading train indicators, the one at Richmond says "calls at: Upminster only" but the train stops at every station in between.
Was there really a train going to Olympia?
All the trains were going to Olympia.
e-scooters are far too dangerous, no consideration given by riders to other people.
The Evening Standard has been rubbish since it became free. A West Final Edition printed around 11am is a nonsense. As you say, a rich man's plaything.
Sounds like the District line was having a really bad day with another problem between Earls Court and Turnham Green.
To be fair to station staff, they are probably as much in the dark as anyone else. I suspect that no-one can say how long a problem is going to last until the signal or points failure or whatever else has caused the line closure is investigated. I suspect I would hide away if I was unable to offer any meaningful help.

What would make a difference is announcements on trains that are being stopped short of their original destination suggesting where to change and alternative routes.
I thought that a London Underground station had to be temporarily closed if no staff were available, unless that's only the case for sub-surface/deep tube stations.
Another week on, and I arrive at Plaistow station to find its doors closed “due to unavailability of station staff”. Meh.

But I guess that answers my earlier question - yes there were staff at the station during all that disruption, they just weren't out being helpful with the public.
