Yes, but not Wolverhampton itself (except with certain restrictive conditions) because it is Virgin territory.

Londoners wanting a weekend away, some fresh air and beautiful scenery, really could do worse than head for Llangollen with W&S. We did it last year, walking the Llangollen Canal from Chirk (through Chirk Tunnel and over the Chirk and Pontcysyllte Aqueducts) and by sheer chance timed our weekend to coincide with the Rail'n'Ale festival at the Llangollen Railway. Steam trains, beautiful countryside and top notch beer and cider to boot. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven... and at £55 each first class each way, with a fine meal thrown in, W&S topped and tailed our little trip perfectly. Winner.

So how do they stop the Londoners getting off at Wolverhampton? Do they have some sort of border control?
Sounds like a lovely train though, and far nicer than the equivalent experience on Virgin

They don't sell tickets between London and Wolverhampton. So you can get off the train, but getting out of the station may be harder.

Yeuuuuw, DG, was there something in the water when you wrote this? "Littler", "comfortabler", an excess of ,,,,,,,'s oh dear oh dear....

Don't warm-hearted commenters like "B" make the soul leap for joy?

W&S is part-owned by Deutsche Bahn, which could teach most of the lazy UK train firms a thing or two about customer service.

Have travelled twice on W&S and if anything you have understated the joy of travelling on this line. And Marylebone is by far the most civilised London terminal-it even has its own Cheese shop. Any excuse you can find to travel to any of the destinations served (Leamington Spa anyone?), change your plans and go.

Thanks for this DG. I visit Shrewsbury(ish) a few times a year and didn't know about W&S, so I'll use them next time. You can book in advance for £10 each way - that's cheaper than the coach!

I like the thought of Wolverhampton being virgin territory...

W&S are indeed amazing, living in Shrewsbury I use them a lot. I travelled with both them & Virgin a few weeks apart - the service is so different!

A family accidentally got on the wrong Virgin train @ Euston and were told they'd have to wait until the next scheduled stop @ Milton Keynes to get off & go back.

Same thing happened on the W&S @ Banbury, train manager goes 'oh don't worry, we'll just ring ahead and arrange to stop at the next station to let you off'

That's what service should be like!

I see in the news today that this service is to be stopped.

I'm kicking myself for not acting soon enough and giving this a go. Oh so longing to take a sick day, but no, too late and people relying on you etc.
